Taguig City Provides Technical Assistance for Local Businesses
In its effort to assist local businesses, the City Government of Taguig (August 27, 2010) held today a one-day orientation on Technical Assistance and Advisory Service designed to boost cottage industries in Taguig City.
Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano said the seminar was offered to Taguig establishments which are employing less than ten (10) workers and those registered as Barangay Micro Business Enterprises (BMEs).
The orientation was held at the Auditorium of Taguig City Hall from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and organized by the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of Taguig City headed by Norman Mirabel and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
Mirabel explained that the orientation seminar is designed to assist the owners and managers in mapping out a development program in a hope of increasing productivity and developing enterprises in the city.
“It is also designed to facilitate eventual compliance of the participants with labor standards to ensure that their workers get all the benefits that they are entitled to,” Mirabel said.
“We are glad to provide these owners sound technical assistance on how to run their operations,” he said, adding that representatives of establishments who have sufficient knowledge of operations of their businesses and can act and commit on owners’ behalf were also encouraged to join in the seminar.
For the entrepreneur assistance program, the PESO said that at least 33 registrants participated, mostly small businesses such as hardware merchandise, school and learning center, water station, salon/beauty parlor, bakery, barber shop, junk shop, motor shop, canteen and cafeteria and mini groceries.
The one-day seminar was offered for free.
Meanwhile, the PESO has already employed 444 job applicants to different private companies for the month of July alone, surpassing the 422 employed applicants under the previous administration for the combined first six months of this year, 2010. ###
