LANI scholars post 81% passing rate in 2013 Mech Eng’g board exam

A total of 29 scholars of the P300-million Lifeline Assistance for Neighbors In-Need (LANI) Scholarship Program passed the recent Mechanical Engineering Licensure Exam 2013 administered by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) last month.

 “This is indeed good news and I would like to congratulate all our LANI scholars for passing the board with flying colors. Our new mechanical engineers are proof that we have invested wisely in our children’s education here in Taguig,” said  Mayor Lani Cayetano.

 “We now know that Taguig City is reaping the benefits of what it sowed a few years back when we decided to pour in more resources to our children’s future by increasing the funds for our scholarship program for higher education,” Mayor Lani added.

 According to Bootes Lopos of the Education and Policy Office of Taguig, the passing rate of the LANI scholars who took the said board exam was 81%, as a total of 36 scholars took the test last month.

 In total, she said, the 29 LANI scholars are among the 2,201 passers out of the 3,196 who took the examination by the Board of Mechanical Engineering in Manila, Cebu and Davao.

 “All of the 29 passers are 2013 graduates and first time takers of the said examination,” Lopos said.

 The milestone of the 29 LANI scholars follows that of Charlie France Gisala – another LANI scholar – who placed 3rd in the 2013 Radiologic Technologist Board Examination in June of this year.

 Gisala, who earned his degree at the Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) in Manila, garnered a score of 90.40% in the board exams to make it to the Top 10 of the 637 passers nationwide.

 Lopos also said that the recent Nursing board examination also yielded positive results for LANI scholars, saying that of the 43 LANI scholars who took the recent licensure exam for nurses, 35 passed and our now registered nurses.

 The city government of Taguig had earlier increased the funding for its scholarship program from last year’s P200 million to P300 million in 2013 as part of its efforts to boost the education sector.

 According to Lopos, these scholars all availed of the review assistance program for bar and board reviewees which is one of the eight basic categories of grants under the LANI Scholarship Program.

 The others are: basic scholarship or financial assistance; full scholarships; state universities and colleges (SUCs) and local universities and colleges (LUCs) scholarships; basic plus SUC/LUC scholarships; premier/specialized schools scholarships; leaders and educators advancement and development (LEAD); and priority courses and skills training

 So far, more than 30,000 scholarships have been given away under the program since its inception during Mayor Lani’s first term in 2010. ###

Dalawamput-siyam (29) na iskolar ng P300-million Lifeline Assistance for Neighbors In-Need (LANI) Scholarship Program ng Taguig City ang nakapasa sa nakalipas na Mechanical Engineering Licensure Exam ngayong taong ito na pinangasiwaan ng Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) noong nakaraang buwan.

 “Napakagandang balita nito. Inaani na ng lungsod ng Taguig ang kabutihang dulot ng ating desisyon na maglaan ng mas malaking pondo sa scholarship program para sa ikabubuti ng kinabukasan ng ating kabataan,” sabi ni Mayor Lani Cayetano.

 “Ang ating mga bagong mechanical engineers ay patunay lamang na tama ang ginawa nating pamumuhunan para sa edukasyon dito sa Taguig. Ipinagmamalaki naming lahat ang inyong tagumpay.”

 Ayon pa kay Bootes Lopos ng Education and Policy Office ng Taguig, nakapagtala ng 81% passing rate ang mga LANI scholars. 36 na mga iskolar ang kumuha ng pagsusulit noong nakaraang buwan.

 Dagdag pa ni Lopos, ang 29 na LANI scholars ay kabilang sa 2,201 na mga pumasa sa 3,196 na kumuha ng pagsusulit ng Board of Mechanical Engineering sa Maynila, Cebu at Davao.

 “Lahat ng 29 na mga nakapasa ay nakapagtapos ngayong taong ito. Ito rin ang kanilang unang pagkakataon na kumuha ng nasabing pagsusulit,” sabi ni Lopos.

 Ang tagumpay ng 29 na LANI scholar ay kasunod sa nakamit ni Charlie France Gisala—isa ring LANI scholar—na siyang pumangatlo sa 2013 Radiologic Technologists Board Examination.

 Si Gisala, na nakapagtapos sa Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) sa Maynila, ay nakakuha ng 90.40% marka sa board exams at pumasok sa Top 10 mula sa 637 nakapasa sa buong bansa.

 Ayon kay Lopos, ang kamakailang Nursing board examination ay nakapagtala rin ng magagandang resulta para sa mg LANI scholars dahil sa 43 LANI scholar na kumuha ng pagsusulit, 35 ang pumasa at ngayo’y mga rehistradong nars na.

 Nauna nang taasan ng lokal na pamahalaan ng Taguig ang pondo para sa scholarship mula sa P200 milyon hanggang sa P300 milyon ngayong 2013 bilang pagsusulong sa sektor ng edukasyon.

 Sinabi ni Lopos na ang mga iskolar na ito ay kumuha ng review assistance program para sa mga bar and board reviewees na kabilang sa walong kategorya ng mga scholarship grants sa ilalim ng LANI Scholarship Program.

 Ang iba pang kabilang ay: basic scholarship o pampinansyal na tulong; full scholarships; ang scholarship para sa mga pampublikong unibersidad at kolehiyo (SUCs) at mga lokal na unibersidad at kolehiyo (LUCs); basic plus SUC/LUC scholarships; scholarship para sa mga premier/ specialized na mga paaralan; ang Leaders and Educators Advancement and Development (LEAD); at priority courses and skills training.

 Sa ngayon meron nang mahigit 30,000 scholarships ang naipamahagi simula nang pasinayaan ito sa unang termino ni Mayor Lani noong 2010. ###
