Taguig cools schools

Provides aircon and generator units to 34 public schools

The local government of Taguig installed additional air conditioning units and new generators in the city’s 34 public schools, in time for this year’s school opening, to provide positive and comfortable learning environment for every public school student in the city.

According to Mayor Lani Cayetano, the decision to put aircon units in the schools was made because they want to create a condition in which the children could concentrate effectively, especially grade six and fourth year students who will be taking their national achievement tests.

“Classrooms with high temperature affect the learning capability of the students. Instead of focusing on the subject, they think of ways to cool down,” she said.

Department of Education Taguig-Pateros Division (DepEd TaPat) administrator Dr.George Tizon added that up to 40 units were allocated for the big schools, while 12 units will be placed in the smaller schools.

Furthermore, the city’s public schools were provided generators in preparation for possible power interruptions especially during the rainy season.

Tizon said that the generators will help prevent disruption of paper works and communication in the schools’ administration office.

Aside from these improvements, the local government has completed the installation of Closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in all of the city’s public schools in support to its anti-bullying campaign.

“We want to make sure that everything is ready before this year’s class opening. It is always our objective to provide a safe and conducive environment for learning in our schools thus we believe that there is always room for improvement in our public schools’ facilities,” the local executive said. ###
