Taguig conducts house-to-house distribution of maintenance meds to constituents

The local government of Taguig is conducting a house-to-house distribution of maintenance medicines to its constituents suffering from diabetes, hypertension and asthma for the second quarter of the year.

“Looking after the health of Taguigenos remains a priority of the city government. We will continue to institute reforms in the public health sector to show our commitment in translating the progress we have in Taguig into concrete programs in social services for our people,” Mayor Lani Cayetano said.

“This is one way of letting the benefits of economic progress trickle down to our citizens. This is Taguig’s version of development that is both inclusive and transparent.”

The maintenance medicines distribution program is a product of the findings made by the Taguig City Integrated Survey System (TCISS), a project instituted by the Cayetano administration during its maiden term in 2010.

The TCISS, in coordination with the Taguig City Health Office, will be distributing packs of diabetes maintenance medicines such as Metformin, Gliclazide, Glibenclamide and Glimeperide.

Hypertension medicines containing Metoprolol (tartate), Losartan, Amlodipine (besilate), Nifedipine and Clonidine (hydrochloride) will also be distributed along with packs of Salbutamol tablets, syrup, nebules and inhalers for asthma patients.

The TCISS is an innovative survey system which was carried out in the form of a a house-to-house census using a questionnaire divided into three tranches, echoing Mayor Lani’s aim of delivering meaningful services and programs right at her constituents’ doorstep.

Surveys are done to all homes in Taguig, providing basic demographics and profiles of the tenants that included the medical attention needed with accurate figures.

“With this detailed and exhaustive survey, the city government has been able to extend all the necessary help and assistance to the different sectors of Taguig. The assistance is specific; for instance, identified asthma patients are given free Salbutamol tablets and syrup,” explained Mayor Lani.

“Now, we no longer practice the use of ‘guess-timates’ that either lead to wanton spending or to a deficient delivery of services to the people.”

Last February, the TCISS distributed maintenance medicines to 12,726 beneficiaries with asthma, hypertension and diabetes.

Other health programs that have come into fruition because of TCISS include “Oplan Alis Bosyo: Thyroid Operation Program” and “Operation Alis Bukol” which offers surgery to residents suffering from cyst, lymphoma, warts, and similar ailments. ###

FILIPINO VERSION:
