Taguig City heightens alert for New Year’s Eve

Doctors, cops, firemen, rescue personnel ready to respond any time.

After the peaceful Christmas celebration in Taguig, the city government is still on heightened alert status in preparation for the New Year celebration.

Mayor Lani Cayetano ordered the alert status to all the concerned agencies to ensure the safety of everyone during the New Year revelry.

Mayor Lani directed the Taguig City Police Station, Bureau of Fire Protection-Taguig, Taguig Rescue and the Taguig-Pateros District Hospital (TPDH) to be on alert and ready to respond to the call of duty.

 Mayor Lani assured that all local policemen, firemen, medical, and rescue personnel are equipped and ready to respond at any emergency.

 “The safety of our residents comes first in times like this. Our city government is making sure that we are ready to take action when the need arises. We also ensure that we have enough number of personnel to attend to the needs of the public, whether rescue or medical assistance,” she added.

 Mayor Lani also requested the Taguig City Police Station to strengthen the campaign against indiscriminate firing in line with the directives of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO). In compliance, all the policemen assigned in the city sealed all their service firearms with tape and signed by their superiors. The Taguig PNP will  monitor them if they fired their firearms, whether they use it in the line of duty or not.

 Senior Superintendent Arthur Felix Asis, chief of Taguig City Police Station, said that there are no cases of stray bullets or indiscriminate firing during last year’s celebration, nevertheless, they will intensify their patrols and checkpoints this year. The police are also active in regulating the distribution of prohibited firecrackers being sold in public.

On the other hand, the BFP Taguig is still reminding the public to be cautious about defective or overheated Christmas lights that may cause fire. The fire department also advised Taguigenos to refrain from using prohibited firecrackers that may inflict injury to people.

 Aside from medical supplies and equipment, city ambulances are also ready for deployment in case of emergencies according to Mayor Lani. She also said that Doctors-on-Call and the Super Health Centers are on standby mode.

 “The Doctors-on-Call and our Super Health Centers are capable of handling minor emergency cases and normal birth delivery,” Mayor Lani said.

 At present, there are three Super Health Center operating in the barangays of North Signal, Central Bicutan, and Ligid-Tipas open 24/7.

 Doctor Anna Ritchie Quilatan, director of TPDH, said that last New Year’s Eve celebration, alcohol-related incidents are high compared to firecracker-related cases based on the patients they admitted. According to her, the residents should also be reminded on their alcohol intakes and be aware of the Anti-drunk Driving Law.###
