Taguig is Most Outstanding LGU in the fight against TB

Best among Highly Urbanized Cities in Luzon

Taguig City has bagged this year’s Manuel L. Quezon Award, the prestigious award given by the Department of Health (DOH) to Local Government Units which successfully implement national health objectives.

Mayor Lani Cayetano is ecstatic after Taguig was bestowed the Most Outstanding Highly Urbanized City in Luzon award in the fight against Tuberculosis (TB) during the Bayanihan ng Kalusugan ceremony.

Taguig City achieved a 90 percent TB Case Detection Rate and TB Treatment Success Rate.

The lady mayor revealed that the pro-active strategy of the City Health Office in combating the dreaded disease has saved the lives and improved the health of multitude of TB patients.

Dr. Isaias Ramos, Officer-in-Charge of the City Health Office, attributes their success to “Intensive Case Finding” and the city government’s all-out support.

“Our case finding strategy is very solid. This is crucial to the success of our campaign. Remember, TB is primarily an airborne disease. If we fail to identify possible TB bacteria carriers, the disease can easily spread. It is also our task to make sure each patient will complete the medication,” Dr. Ramos explains.

Taguig has established a TB Task Force responsible for house-to-house dissemination of information, identifying TB patients, and monitoring the patients’ completion of the medication.

Dr. Ramos adds that the city’s intervention is the key in having a steady supply of anti-TB drugs. He said that the city is always ready to augment the supply of TB drugs making the drug available for distribution to the patients.

The city government also puts emphasis on the prevention aspect of the TB campaign. The city-run Taguig City University (TCU) requires its students at the start of every semester to undergo a medical examination which includes a chest X-ray.

The city’s public school teachers are similarly required to take an annual medical examination and chest X-ray before the start of every school year.

Taguig has 31 TB DOTS Center and a satellite treatment center at the North Daang Hari Health Center dedicated to patients suffering from multi-drug resistant TB. The satellite treatment center also has a gene expert machine that can determine if a person is infected with multi-drug test resistant TB.

In 2015, Taguig City was given the Most Outstanding LGU in TB-HIV Implementation without Medtech Augmentation and the Most Outstanding LGU in Community Based Organization.

Mayor Lani credits the city’s success to its core of health professionals who are committed to the cause of health services. She has hailed them as modern day heroes. ###

Taguig ginawaran ng Most Outstanding LGUaward sa paglaban sa TB

Nakuha ng lungsod ng Taguig ang prestihiyosong parangal mula sa Department of Health (DOH)- ang Manuel L. Quezon award na iginagawad sa lokal na pamahalaan dahil sa matagumpay na implementasyon ng programa laban sa tuberculosis o TB.

Ang parangal sa Pamahalaang Lungsod ng Taguig na Most Outstanding Highly Urbanized City in Luzon ay ipinagkaloob ng DOH sa Bayanihan ng Kalusugan ceremony sa Manila Hotel sa lungsod ng Maynila.

Nakakuha ang Taguig ng 90 percent TB case Detection Rate at TB Treatment Success Rate.

Ipinagmalaki ni Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano ang parangal na aniya’y bunsod ng pro-active strategy ng City Health Office sa paglaban sa TB na nakapagligtas ng maraming buhay.

Sinabi naman ni Dr. Isaias Ramos, Officer-in-Charge ng City Health Office na ang tagumpay na ito ay dahil sa  kanilang “Intensive Case Finding” at sa all-out support na ibinibigay ng pamahalaang lungsod.

“Napakahusay ng aming case finding strategy. Napakahalaga nito sa pagtatagumpay ng aming kampanya. Alalahanin natin na ang TB ay maaaring maipasa sa hangin. Kung mabibigo kami sa pagtukoy ng mga posibleng may dala ng TB bacteria ay maaaring kumalat ang sakit na ito. Tungkulin din namin na tiyakin na makukumpleto ng bawat TB patient ang kanyang gamutan,” paliwanag ni Dr. Ramos.

Ang Taguig ay mayroong TB Task Force na siyang may responsibilidad na magbahay-bahay para ikalat ang importanteng impormasyon tungkol sa TB, pagtukoy sa mga TB patient, at ang pagsubaybay sa bawat pasyente at tiyakin na kanilang makukumpleto ang gamutan.

Idinagdag pa ni Dr. Ramos na ang tulong ng pamahalaang lungsod ang susi para tiyak na sapat ang supply ng mga gamot sa TB. Sinabi nito na laging nakaalalay ang lungsod at makasiguro na laging may gamot ang mga pasyente.

Tinututukan din ng pamahalaang lungsod ang prevention aspect ng kampanya sa TB. Sa Taguig City University (TCU) na pinangangasiwaan ng Pamahalaang Lungsod ng Taguig, ang bawat estudyante ay inoobliga na sumailalim sa medical examination kasama rito ang chest x-ray, sa bawat pagsisimula ng bawat semester.

Gayundin ang mga guro ng pampublikong paaralan na kinakailangang sumailalim sa medical examination at chest x-ray sa pagsisimula ng school year.

Ang Taguig ay mayroong 31 TB DOTS Center at isang satellite treatment center na nasa North Daang Hari Health Center. Sa satellite treatment center ginagamot ang mga indibidwal na may multi-drug resistant TB. Mayroon itong gene expert machine na nagde-determina kung ang pasyente ay nagtataglay ng multi-drug resistant TB.

Noong 2015, iginawad sa Taguig ang Most Outstanding LGU in TB-HIV Implementation without Medtech augmentation at ang Most Outstanding LGU in Community Based Organization.

Sinabi ni Mayor Lani na ang tagumpay na ito ng lungsod ay dahil sa mga health professional na buong-buo ang commitment sa pagbibigay ng health services. Tinawag niya ang mga ito na mga bayani ng kasalukuyang panahon. ###
