Taguig Police no. 1 in SPD anti-illegal drugs operation

117 arrested, 351 drug dependents and peddlers surrender

The Taguig City Police Station topped  the Southern Police District (SPD) in the number of drug peddlers arrested within the period  June 1 –July 6, 2016.

Taguig’s accomplishment is a fitting welcome to  President Rodrigo Duterte who has declared an all-out war against illegal drugs and ordered the Philippine National Police (PNP) to dismantle all illegal drug syndicates in the country.

Sr. Supt. Allen Ocden, officer-in-charge of the Taguig City police, said  his command  apprehended  117 drug suspects and confiscated more than 26 grams of shabu, 8 grams of marijuana, and  various drug paraphernalia for the one-month period.

In comparison, the PNP commands in  neighboring cities managed fewer arrests: Pasay City made  54 arrests, Makati has 42, Parañaque has 26, Las Piñas has 40, Muntinlupa has 49, and Pateros has 14. The SPD headquarters made 10 arrest.

The  arrested suspects were charged with illegal drug trafficking and detained pending their prosecution in court.

This early accomplishment of the Taguig PNP is part of the massive and simultaneous anti-drug operations codenamed Oplan Tokhang” (Toktok-hangyo or “knock and plead”) ordered by chief PNP Dir. Gen. Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa.

The concept of “Oplan Tokhang” includes the conduct of a house-to-house visitation by the police, in coordination with the local government units and barangay officials, to persuade illegal drug personalities to immediately stop their illegal drug activities or else the police would hit them hard.

Under the “Oplan Tokhang,” the Taguig PNP  facilitated the surrender of  351 drug users and peddlers in the city who  thereafter signed  written undertaking that they would cease using or peddling drugs. Some of them also requested the city to place them under a drug rehabilitation program.

Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano said the city is  committed to combat the drug menace and fully supports  President Duterte’s directive to cleanse the country of illegal drugs in the soonest possible time.

“Rest assured that the city of Taguig will continue to work hard to  attain our dream of becoming a drug-free nation,” Mayor Lani said.

Mayor Lani’s support to the police resulted in the dismantling of the notorious Tinga Drug syndicate. Last year, Taguig Police managed to arrest the top ten illegal drug personalities. ###

FILIPINO VERSION:

117 arestado, 351 drug user at pusher- sumuko
