PDEA opens new home in Taguig; office set to boost city’s campaign vs illegal drugs

 

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) has a new home in Taguig City, a development that reinforces the campaign against illegal drugs in the probinsyudad and the rest of southern Metro Manila.

 

The City of Taguig, affirming its commitment to the Duterte administration’s  campaign against illegal drugs,  funded PDEAs’ first-ever satellite office in the National Capital Region. On Sept. 21, 2018, Taguig City turned over the brand-new, fully-furnished office for the use of PDEA. 

 

“PDEA just has to report to the office to make it fully operational,” said Taguig Anti-Drug Abuse Council OIC Hilario Cruz as he highlighted the city’s generosity. 

 

PDEA will leave their old station in a building they share with the Southern Police District in Brgy. Fort Bonifacio as they occupy their new Upper Bicutan building. The satellite office comes fully equipped  with air conditioning units, computers and furniture.

 

“It’s been a top priority for the current city leadership and it aligns with the advocacy of President Duterte,” added Mr. Cruz.

 

The office will boost Taguig’s drug campaign even more as PDEA will work closely with the city’s police force and TADAC. The building can host inter-agency meetings and will accept walk-in reports.

 

The whole of PDEA’s South jurisdiction — the cities of Taguig, Makati, Pasay, Muntinlupa, Las Pinas and Parañaque, plus the town of Pateros — will also benefit from drastically improved response times and the round-the-clock hotline.

 

Joel Villorente, a PDEA agent assigned to the city, said the relocation was a “morale booster” for the enforcers of the Philippine drug law.

 

“PDEA, under the leadership of Director General Aaron N. Aquino, is grateful to the city of Taguig,” he noted.

 

“It’s a big thing what the city has done,” Villorente added.

 

Just recently, three big time drug pushers were sentenced to life imprisonment in September after being nabbed in a buy-bust operation that turned up with 2 kilograms of high-grade cocaine worth P10 million in 2011. 

 

Earlier in 2016 and 2017, Tinga Drug Syndicate members Joel Tinga and Elisa “Ely” Tinga were also sentenced to reclusion perpetua for selling illegal drugs.

 

Elisa, wife of Noel Tinga, reportedly a cousin of former Taguig Mayor Freddie Tinga, was the third most wanted person in the list of illegal drug personalities. She was the seventh member of the Tinga Drug Syndicate who was arrested and jailed.

 

The Top 10 drug personalities in 2015 —Michael Butch Tan, Sancho Espiritu, Alfonso Dacquel, Richard Silvestre, Isidro Llagas, Mardie Talampas, Jackie Abone, Adonis Venus, Bags Malay and Rawie Castro—are all now behind bars, thanks to the continuous efforts of the police. 

 

Several initiatives were also introduced to curb the drug menace.

 

In 2016, the Taguig Anti-Drug Abuse Council launched the drug-free community program for drug dependents. The two-month program aims to rehabilitate drug users and reintegrate them as productive members of society.

 

Taguig, under the leadership of Mayor Lani, also implements a “one-strike policy” against business establishments allowing patrons and customers to use illegal drugs. The city government immediately revokes business permits even though establishments are first-time offenders.###

PDEA binuksan ang bagong  “tahanan” sa Taguig; kampanya sa droga paiigtingin pa

 

Mas lalong iigting ang kampanya laban sa iligal na droga sa probinsyudad at karatig-bayan nito sa katimugang bahagi ng Metro Manila dahil sa pagbubukas ng bagong tanggapan ng Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) sa lungsod ng Taguig.

 

Salamat sa bukas-loob na lungsod ng Taguig at sa susunod na linggo ay magsisimula na ang operasyon ng kauna-unahang satellite office ng PDEA sa National Capital Region — kung saan hindi kinailangang gumastos ng nasabing ahensya. Isang taon makalipas ang matagumpay na ugnayan ng dalawa, ay ite-turnover na ng lungsod sa ika-21 ng Setyembre ang bago at fully-furnished na opisina sa pangangalaga ng PDEA.

 

“Kailangan na lamang mag-report ng PDEA sa kanilang bagong opisina para maging fully operational na ito,” wika ni Taguig Anti-Drug Abuse Council OIC Hilario Cruz habang tinatalakay ang kabutihang-loob ng pamahalaang lungsod.

 

Iiwan na ng PDEA ang dating nitong istasyon sa Brgy. Fort Bonifacio kung saan kasama nila ang Southern Police District at lilipat sa bagong gusali na matatagpuan naman sa Brgy. Upper Bicutan na siyang kumpleto na sa mga airconditioning units, kompyuter, at iba pang kagamitan. Ang nasabing tanggapan ay itatayo sana sa lungsod Makati ngunit sa tulong ni Taguig City 2nd Dist. Rep. Pia Cayetano ay lokal na pamahalaan ng Taguig ang siyang umako ng responsibilidad at nagsawa ng pagpapatayo ng nasabing gusali.

 

Ang pagbibigay at pagtulong na ito ay sumisimbolo sa layunin ng administrasyon ni Mayor Lani na tuluyan ng mawala ang droga sa lungsod. “Ito ay isa sa pangunahing prayoridad ng ating administrasyon na siyang alinsunod na rin sa adbokasiya ni Pangulong Duterte.”

 

Ang bagong opisina ay inaasahang magpapalakas ng kampanya ng lungsod laban sa droga dahil mas pai-igtingin pa ng PDEA ang pakikipagtulungan sa lokal na pulisya at TADAC.  Ang gusali ay may kakayahang magsagawa ng inter-agency meetings at tatanggap ng walk-in reports.

 

Ang buong katimugang hurisdiksyon ng PDEA — ang mga lungsod ng Taguig, Makati, Pasay, Muntinlupa, Las Piñas at Parañaque, pati na rin ang bayan ng Pateros — ay makikinabang sa malaking pagbabago dahil sa mas pinagandang response times at round-the-clock hotline.

Nitong nakaraan lang, tatlong big-time drug pushers ang nasintensyahan ng habambuhay na pagkakakulong noong Setyembre matapos mahuli sa isang buy-bust operation kung saan nakuhaan sila ng mahigit dalawang kilo ng high-grade cocaine na nagkakahalaga ng P10 milyon noong 2011.

 

Noong 2016 at 2017, magugunita na ang mga miyembro ng Tinga Drug Syndicate na sina Joel Tinga at Elisa “Ely” Tinga ay nasentensyahan na rin ng reclusion perpetua dahil sa pagbebenta ng iligal na droga.

 

Si Elisa na asawa ni Noel Tinga, na pinsan umano ni dating Taguig Mayor Freddie Tinga, ay ang third most wanted person sa listahan ng illegal drug personalities. Siya ang pang-pitong miyembro ng Tinga Drug Syndicate na nahuli at nakulong.

Ang iba pang nasa Top 10 drug personalities noong 2015 —Michael Butch Tan, Sancho Espiritu, Alfonso Dacquel, Richard Silvestre, Isidro Llagas, Mardie Talampas, Jackie Abone, Adonis Venus, Bags Malay at Rawie Castro—ay kasalukuyang nakakulong dahil sa programa ng Taguig PNP na masawata ang droga sa lungsod.

Noong 2016, ang Taguig Anti-Drug Abuse Council ay naglunsad ng drug-free community program para sa mga nalulong sa droga. Ang dalawang buwan na programa ay may layuning i-rehabilitate ang mga drug user at ma-reintegrate sila bilang mabuting mamamayan.

Ang Taguig, sa ilalim ng liderato ni Mayor Lani, ay nagpatupad ng “one-strike policy” laban sa mga business establishment na mahuhuling nagbebenta o pumapayag na gumamit ng iligal na droga ang kanilang mga customer.
