Taguig continues mobility plan beyond 60 days

The City Government of Taguig has yet to be furnished by DILG of the copy of the evaluation, however the it continues to implement its mobility plan aimed at ensuring quicker and safer travels for its residents and visitors beyond the 60-day deadline imposed by the Department of the Interior and Local Government for clearing obstructions.

This is in line with the city’s full support for President Rodrigo Duterte’s directive to “reclaim all public roads” in his fourth State of the Nation Address in July.

The plan, which is outlined in an executive order issued by Taguig Mayor Lino Cayetano, specifies a holistic 4-phase approach to ensure mobility, and goes beyond the actual clearing of obstructions on major and secondary roads. It also includes road and sidewalk restoration and infrastructure projects to improve mobility.

Under the EO, the cleared roads are also undergoing a beautification process, and are monitored to ensure they will remain spacious with no obstructions.

Mayor Lino said the city is confident about what has been achieved so far but is determined to work harder on accomplishing the city’s mobility plan.

He noted the city creation of the Mobility Office and the Mobility Task Force to implement the plans under the EO was unprecedented, and that there is almost no vendor or illegal structures obstructing public roads. The city council has also passed the Taguig Vehicular and Pedestrian Mobility Ordinance.

“The clearing of Taguig roads will continue beyond the 60 days because we are serious with the goal of creating pedestrian-centered communities where residents and visitors can walk from one destination to another safer and faster,” Mayor Lino added. ###
