Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano (right) holds her own against Frenchie Dy, ultimate champion of ABS-CBN’s Star In a Million singing contest in their duet of Aegis’s songs “Luha” and “Halik” during the “Gig sa Taguig 2012” free concert last April 24. The free concert is one of Mayor Lani’s treats to the city’s residents for the week-long celebration of Taguig’s 425th Foundation Anniversary.

The simultaneous concerts, which were both free for all Taguig residents, are among the many gifts of Mayor Lani Cayetano to the city residents as part of this year’s celebration of the 425th Foundation Anniversary of Taguig.

Among the top performers in these concerts were Aiza Seguerra, Paolo Santos, and Luke Mejares.

The Gig for residents of District 1 was held at the vacant lot beside the Barangay Hall of Lower Bicutan, while the concert for the District 2 was held inside the campus of Technological University of the Philippines (TUP).

The concerts, which kicked off around 6:00 in the evening, also featured Taguig-based music bands such as “Freeway Band” and “6 or 7.”

Aside from Aiza, Paolo, and Luke, other top-notch musical talents performed in the concert, such as Frenchie Dy, the ‘ultimate champion’ of Star in a Million singing contest of giant network ABS-CBN. Dy is also known as the “Big Time Belter” of the Philippines.

‘Gig sa Taguig’ is not just a night of Filipino music performers as it included the performance from the “XB Gen San Dancers,” the grand champion in ABS-CBN’s “Showtime.”

Among those who played a key role in helping Mayor Lani to stage the twin concerts include Zaida Ignacio, head of the City Tourism and Trade Office, as well as Brgy. Lower Bicutan Chairman Ricardo “Ading” Cruz Jr., Brgy. Western Bicutan Chairman Nicky Supan, and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation President Ricardo “Goma” Cruz III.

Meanwhile, Public Information Office chief Atty. Darwin Icay said Mayor Lani also sponsored another free concert last night, April 25, this time for the city hall officials and employees, public school principals and teachers, and barangay staff.

The concert, which started around 7:00 p.m. at EMS Signal Village Elementary School, featured the Hotdog band of the 70’s and 80’s.

Also invited for the Hotdog concert are staff and members of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and other national agencies who have been helping the Cayetano administration in its public service for the people of Taguig.

Atty. Icay also said that during the concerts, Mayor Lani gave recognition to all volunteer doctors from the private sector who took part in the city government’s “Operation Bukol,” recently.
