“After e-Grad comes e-Wedding”

KASALANG BAYAN IN TAGUIG SHOWN LIVE VIA INTERNET

After successfully pioneering the e-Graduation project in Taguig, Mayor Lani Cayetano is now targeting the live video streaming over the internet of the free mass wedding rites or Kasalang Bayan in the city to be held this Thursday.

This mass wedding project is among Mayor Lani Cayetano’s gifts to the city’s residents in connection with Taguig’s 425thFoundation Day celebration.

The live video streaming of the free mass wedding, or e-Wedding, in Taguig came in the heels of the city’s successful staging of e-Grad project, which showed live videos of graduation rites in Taguig’spublic schools that anyone with Internet access can watch.

Mayor Lani earlier said the e-Graduation project was launched to allow relatives of graduating students who are working abroad, to take part in the important milestone in the life of their loved ones.

This is the same rationale, according to the lady mayor, why they decided to extend the same Internet service in connection with the Kasalang Bayan, where some 146 couples are expected to tie the knot.

To make the occasion more memorable to all participants, Mayor Lani will give away special gifts to partners who will be selected as ‘Oldest Couple,’ as ‘Best Dressed Couple’ and the ‘Earliest Couple to Arrive.’

The Civil Registry Office of Taguig has identified partners Rogelio Lansangan, 61 years old, and Lourdes Maga, 56, both of Zone 6 Brgy. Signal Village as the “oldest couple” among those who are listed as participants in the mass wedding. The couple has been together for 26 years and they have 5 children.

The Kasalang Bayan is the joint undertaking of the Office of the Mayor and Civil Registry Office (CRO) under the supervision of Mrs. Eloisa Cruz-Castillo. The mass wedding ceremony will be held at Taguig City University (TCU) auditorium at 8:00 a.m.

Mayor Lani will personally solemnize the wedding rites for the couples, most of whom were living-in for so many years but could not afford to legalize their relationship due to financial difficulties.

Meanwhile, Cruz-Castillo explained that even sweethearts who were not living-in and were planning on tying the knot but can’t do so because of financial problems are also qualified to benefit from the mass wedding program.

Based on City Ordinance No. 72 Series of 2009, the city government is mandated to conduct a “Kasalang Bayan” twice a year particularly every Foundation Day and City Hood Anniversary of Taguig, with the rites free for all qualified residents of Taguig.

Aside from free wedding, all couples will receive a free package consisting of the following: flower bouquet for the bride, boutonniere for the groom; as well as wedding arras, candles, wedding cake and souvenir photos.

In December 8, 2011 cityhood anniversary, some 165 pairs took part in the free wedding program offered by Mayor Lani to her constituents.

The city government of Taguig has lined up different programs and projects in its week-long founding anniversary celebration this year scheduled from April 22 up to 28.
