‘All set’ as Taguig prepares for opening of classes

ALL SET — The city government of Taguig and its residents have this to say with the opening of classes just around the corner.

 

This is because the local government and parents of the city’s students have been more than prepared for the June 5 class opening.

 

The National Maintenance Week, popularly known as Brigada Eskwela, was held from May 15 to May 20 in 23 elementary schools and 13 secondary schools of Taguig. Brigada Eskwela showcased the modern way of “bayanihan” among teachers, parents, students, volunteers and other members of the community. Under the program, different sectors helped in the repair of school buildings, and ensured cleanliness in their premises.

 

“On June 5, we will also be setting up Help Desk stations in all schools to assist the parents and students, especially the transferees,” Local School Board (LSB) head Dr. Natividad Jimenez said.

 

According to Jimenez, the students have already received their free uniforms from the Taguig government. The girls received three blouses and two skirts, while boys got three polos and two pairs of pants. High school students are also set to receive Physical Education (PE) uniforms.

 

Taguigeño students will be receiving a complete set of notebooks, pencils and ballpens.  Additional items will also be given to grade schoolers such as sharpeners, crayons, a pair of scissors, pad papers and health kits (for pre-schoolers up to Grade 3) containing powder, toothpaste, face towel and bath soap.

 

“Grab bags” or emergency kits will also be provided to elementary students.

 

Each bag contains a whistle, a garbage bag, a flashlight, a scarf, candies, mineral water, a power bar, paracetamol, alcohol, cotton, hydrogen peroxide, Povidone Iodine, a face mask, first-aid paper tape, gauze bandage, and a first-aid gauze pad — essential items in times of emergencies and disasters.

 

“We’re investing in education to make sure every Taguigeño is given a chance to go to school. I think this doesn’t only alleviate our citizen’s lives but is also establishing a positive impact that by doing this, we are creating equal opportunities for all,” Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano said.

 

Providing for all the needs of students is proof that Taguig City gives top priority to education. In addition to this, school buildings and daycare centers have been renovated or newly-constructed to ensure that the facilities are child-friendly and conducive to learning.

 

Because of this investment for education, Taguig City managed to be number one in the National Achievement Test (NAT) for elementary and high school level for two consecutive years (2014-2015). In 2014, Taguig ranked first in the Big Schools Cluster and in 2015, the city was the overall number one both in the Grade 6 and 4th-year levels in the National Capital Region (NCR).

 

Moreover, the local government’s Lifeline Assistance for Neighbors In-need Scholarship Program has produced board topnotchers and licensed professionals. Recently, fifty-nine (59) scholars from the program successfully passed the board and bar exams in Aeronautical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Customs Broker, Law, Nursing, Medical Technology, Pharmacy and Nutrition from November 2016 to May 2017.

 

Former LANI scholars Engr. Guiseppe Andrew B. Buffe and Engr. Ronald Ian T. Borja ranked first (91.6 %) and 10th in the recent Aeronautical Engineering Licensure Examination and Electrical Engineer Board Examination, respectively.

 

On the other hand, the city-run Taguig City University (TCU) continues to offer free college education so high school graduates can pursue education up to the tertiary level. TCU students are also full scholars of the city since the local government shoulders all their tuition fees and miscellaneous expenses.

 

Another educational highlight in Taguig is a P625-million scholarship fund which supports students enrolled in various institutions including the University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University and De La Salle University. There are eight (8) types of scholarship granting subsidies of P10,000 to P100,000. The city has also extended this scholarship program to graduate, law and medicine students. ###

Handa na ang Taguig para sa pagbubukas ng klase sa Lunes

 

HANDA NA ang lokal na pamahalaan ng Taguig at mga Taguigeños sa nalalapit na pagbubukas ng klase sa darating sa ika-5 ng Hunyo.

 

Ang National Maintenance Week, kilala rin sa tawag na Brigada Eskwela, ay isinagawa noong ika-15 ng Mayo hanggang ika-20 ng Mayo sa 23 na elementaryang paaralan at 13 na sekondaryang paaralan sa Taguig. Naipakita ng Brigada Eskwela ang modernong pamamaraan ng bayanihan sa pagitan ng mga guro, magulang, mag-aaral, volunteers at iba pang miyembro ng komunidad. Sa ilalim ng programa, tumulong ang iba’t-ibang sektor para sa pagkukumpuni ng mga gusali ng paaralan, at sa pagtiyak ng kalinisan ng lugar.

 

“Sa darating na ika-5 ng Hunyo, maglalagay rin kami ng mga Help Desk station sa lahat ng paaralan upang magbigay serbisyo sa mga magulang at mag-aaral lalo na sa mga transferee,” wika ng Local School Board (LSB) head na si Dr. Natividad Jimenez.

 

Ayon kay Jimenez, naipamahagi ng lokal na pamahalaan ang mga libreng uniporme sa mga estudyante. Nakatatanggap ng tatlong blusa at dalawang palda ang mga babae, samantalang nakatatanggap naman ng tatlong polo at dalawang pantalon ang mga kalalakihan. Kasalukuyan ding namimigay ng kumpletong Physical Education (PE) uniforms para sa mga High School student.

 

Makatatanggap ang mga mag-aaral ng Taguig ng kumpletong notebooks, lapis at ballpens. Bibigyan rin ang mga grade schooler ng mga karagdagang kagamitan kagaya ng pantasa, krayola, gunting, papel at health kits (para sa pre-schoolers hanggang Grade 3) na naglalaman ng pulbo, toothpaste, face towel at sabong panligo.

 

Mamimigay rin ng “grab bags” o emergency kits para sa mga estudyante sa elementarya.

 

Ang grab bag ay naglalaman ng mga bagay na kinakailangan sa panahon ng sakuna gaya ng whistle, garbage bag, flashlight, scarf, candies, mineral water, power bar, paracetamol, alcohol, cotton, hydrogen peroxide, Povidone Iodine, face mask, first-aid paper tape, gauze bandage, at first-aid gauze pad.

 

“Namumuhunan kami sa edukasyon para masiguro na ang bawat Taguigeño ay mabibigyan ng pagkakataong makapag-aral. Sa tingin ko ay hindi lang nito maitataas ang lebel nang pamumuhay ng ating mga residente bagkus ito rin ay magbubunga ng positibong epekto dahil tayo ay bumubuo ng pantay na oportunidad para sa lahat,” wika ni Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano.

 

Sa pamamagitan ng pagbibigay nang lahat ng pangangailangan ng bawat estudyante, naipapakita ng Taguig na isa sa mga prayoridad nito ay ang edukasyon. Maliban dito, patuloy rin ang pagpapatayo at pag-renovate ng school buildings at daycare centers upang masiguro na maayos ang mga silid-aralan.

 

Dahil dito, nagawa ng Taguig na maging number one sa National Achievement Test (NAT) para sa elementarya at sekondarya sa loob ng magkasunod na taon (2014-2015). Noong 2014, nanguna ang Taguig sa Big Schools Cluster samantalang nag-number one naman ito sa Grade 6 at 4th-year level sa buong National Capital Region (NCR) noong 2015.

 

Higit pa rito, nakapag-produce nang board topnotchers at mga propesyonal ang Lifeline Assistance for Neighbors In-need (L.A.N.I.) scholarship program ng lokal na pamahalaan. Kamakailan ay limampu’t limang (59) iskolar ng programa ang nakapasa sa board at bar exams ng Aeronautical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Customs Broker, Law, Nursing, Medical Technology, Pharmacy at Nutrition noong Nobyembre 2016 hanggang Mayo 2017.

 

Nanguna sa nakaraang Aeronautical Engineering Licensure Examination si Engr. Guiseppe Andrew B. Buffe (91.6 %) at si Engr. Ronald Ian T. Borja naman ay nag-top 10 sa huling Electrical Engineer Board Examination na kapwa dating iskolar ng LANI scholarship program.

 

Sa kabilang banda, patuloy rin ang pagbibigay ng libreng edukasyon ng Taguig City University para sa mga high school graduate na nais ipagpatuloy ang kanilang pag-aaral sa kolehiyo. Itinuturing din silang mga iskolar ng bayan dahil ang lokal na gobyerno ang nagbabayad sa kanilang matrikula at iba pang bayarin.

 

Isa rin sa mga ipinagmamalaki ng Taguig ay ang P625-milyong scholarship fund na sumusuporta sa pag-aaral ng mga estudyante sa mga malalaking unibersidad gaya ng University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University at De La Salle University. Mayroong walong (8) uri ng scholarship grant na umaabot mula P10,000 hanggang P100,000. Pinalawak din ng lungsod ang scholarship program sa mga graduate, law and medicine student. ###
