Buntis Congress 2015
To reduce the incidence of maternal deaths, infant mortality, and teenage pregnancies, the Taguig City Nutrition Office together with the Department of Health (DOH), United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Research Triangle Institute (RTI), and PhilHealth organized the Buntis Congress which was held at the Taguig City University (TCU) Auditorium last June 24.
Taguigeñas aged 25 years and below attended the Buntis Congress where safe motherhood, breastfeeding, immunization, family planning and teenage pregnancy were thoroughly discussed.
The Improvement in maternal health is one of the eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) adapted by the international community in 2000.
Under the Millenium Development Goal, different countries have committed to reducing maternal mortality by three-quarters between 1990 and 2015.
According to World Health Organization (WHO), since 1990, maternal deaths worldwide have dropped by 45%.
