“I am very happy and honored that Cinemanila International Film Festival is back in our City. This year’s festival will showcase around 50 international and local films and screenings will take place at Market! Market! Cinemas and Fully Booked, while Bonifacio High Street will be the venue of another important component of Cinemanila International Film Festival – the Cinebarangay – considered as unique and revolutionary, highlighted by educational workshops and free screenings held outdoors and in public venues such as wet markets, plazas, barangay halls, etc.
Cinebarangay is Cinemanila’s way of bringing the cinema closer and more accessible to the people. It was initiated by Director Tikoy Aguiluz, the founder of the festival, with the primary purpose of giving the whole community a chance to experience said films.
Meanwhile, Atty. Darwin Icay, the Mayor’s spokesperson disclosed that the rekindled alliance between Cinemanila and Taguig is not just a yearly collaboration, but a year-long one. Cinebarangay will be staged not only for the duration of the festival, but goes beyond as Cinebarangay takes place monthly in different venues in Taguig. Indeed, working together towards a common objective is sweeter and stronger the second time around for Cinemanila and the City of Taguig.
