CITY CONTINUES TO CHAMPION HEALTHY AND SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY; CHALLENGES CITIZENS TO COMPLETE TAGUIG’S 25-KM MAIN BIKING LOOP & 32-KM MINI LOOPS
Taguig Bicycle Loop Challenge and Safe Streets to celebrate World Bicycle Day
To promote biking as an alternative mode of transportation in the City and to champion healthy and sustainable mobility, Taguig encouraged its citizens to participate in and complete the 25-km Taguig Bicycle Loop Challenge as part of the celebration of World Bicycle Day.
Through the said challenge, participants will be able to share their bike stories and experiences while they tour in the bike loops and lanes throughout the City.
Taguig’s Main Biking Loop is about 25-km long, starting from Taguig City Hall and stretching from BGC in Brgy. Fort Bonifacio up to Brgy. Upper Bicutan. The City has also created four (4) mini loops for novice bikers to accomplish: Arca-Lakeshore mini loop (8.68km), FTI-Bicutan mini loop (7.67km), Fort Bonifacio mini loop (6.75km), and the Cayetano-Venice mini loop (9.53km). This allows individuals to share their bicycle stories and experiences while touring the city’s bike loops and lanes.
Taguig boasts of being a bike-friendly city with over 60 km of established bike lanes on Cayetano Blvd, Bayani Road, and C-6 Road, among others. Taguig continues to promote cycling as an alternative method of transportation in the city, which advocates for healthy and sustainable mobility.
Aside from the Taguig Loop Challenge, there are free bike maintenance and free snack stations located along Cayetano Blvd., Bayani Road, and Cuasay MRT Road on June 3.
“The purpose of this event is to highlight bicycling as the city’s primary method of transportation and to encourage citizens who are interested in using bicycles for commuting, fitness, or recreation to now pedal their way through biking,” said Taguig Mobility Office Head Will Mariano.
The City will also host public group rides on June 4 at 3PM, beginning at Taguig City Hall and following the main biking loop. The Beginner’s Bike Trail along C6 in Lower Bicutan, the city’s first off-road bicycle trail with ramps, turns, and straights for all adventure-seeking bikers, will also be open to the public on June 4 and 5. Additionally, helmets are required, and mountain and gravel bikes are recommended on the track.
Taguig’s World Bicycle Day celebration will cap off with Safe Streets Taguig on June 5, Sunday, where educational activities including, bike repair lessons, its parts, proper ways of riding a bike, and basic hand signals will be available to the public.
The Safe Street program is under the Bike-Friendly Taguig ordinance, where a particular street in the City will be closed for a day to motorized vehicles, to create a safe place in the city where everyone can bike.
Taguig aims to continue making the city a safe and bike-friendly community. The City vows to continue championing healthy and sustainable living by creating more opportunities for Taguigeño cyclists.
