Light Restoration brings the 7.2 km Road Dike out of the dark

It may have been literally left in the dark during the past administration, but the entire stretch of the Road Dike project, popularly known as Circumferential Road No.6 (C-6), will now surely see the light thanks to the administration of Mayor Lani Cayetano.

The local government of Taguig is set to launch today, Thursday, March 31, 2011, at 5:30 p.m., the second and final phase of the “Road Dike (C-6) Light Restoration Project” that will complete the lighting of the whole stretch of the 7.2 – kilometer highway.

The first phase of the lighting project, covering the first 3.5 kilometers of the Road Dike from Barangay Napindan to Bay Breeze, was completed last March 25, to the delight of the thousands of motorists that pass along the highway as well as the residents living nearby.

“We expect the lighting of C-6, from Napindan all the way to Lower Bicutan, to enhance the complete view of Laguna Lake and prevent road accidents,” said the young local chief executive.

“When Mayor Lani assumed her post last year, there were noticeably no road lights along C-6 Road. That’s why our mayor decided to make these roads much safer for motorists and residents particularly at night,” said former councilor Atty. Darwin B. Icay, spokesman of mayor Cayetano.

In order to preserve the road lights as well as the security of residents, the local government has ordered the deployment of Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) and Traffic Management Office (TMO) members along C-6. It has also solicited the help of barangay captains in the area.

The length of C-6 covers 10 barangays. These are barangays San Miguel, Sta. Ana, Calsada, Napindan, Bambang, Hagonoy, Ibayo Tipas, Palingon, Wawa and New Lower Bicutan.

Other roads in Taguig that were left in the dark by the previous administration have now also been lighted. These include Paso Street, Bagumbayan; A. Bonifacio, Upper Bicutan; Western Bicutan, Service Road; Signal Village (Ballecer Street to PC Road); Bayani Road, AFPOVAI; MRT Avenue (left  and right sides); Barangay Bagumbayan (Mauling Creek to Adia) and Gen. Santos Avenue (left and right sides), Jollibee to DOST.

Also lighted were Maharlika Road and Mindanao Road; Barangay Pinagsama (Water Fun)  Rongo Street, Ballecer; Barangay Wawa (Deva to Kentucky); Palar Tunnel to Water Fun Tunnel; Pedro Cayetano Boulevard and other locations in Western Bicutan, Lower Bicutan, Tuktukan, Napindan and Ibayo Tipas.

Gaining “dome type” streetlights thanks to Mayor Cayetano are Maestrang Pinang, Ligid Tipas; Sitio Imelda, Upper Bicutan; Barangay Calzada; Taguig Science National High School, Hagonoy; C-6 Seagull Bay Breeze intersection, Caldozo Street and Lazaro Street, all in Barangay San Miguel and R. Franco Street, Wawa.

Meanwhile, covered courts in Cocohill Bagumbayan; Ligid Tipas (Cayetano Covered Court and Samama Covered Court); Lower Bicutan; Sta. Ana and Upper Bicutan Phase 4 have also been provided with lights.

The mayor also thanked the City Councilors – Aurelio Paulo Bartolome, Gamie San Pedro, Jimmy Labampa, Jojo Eron, Gigi Valenzuela – De Mesa, Carlito Ogalinola, Ric Jordan, Erwin Manalili, ABC President Ome Tanyag and SK Federation Pres. Goma Cruz – for their support for these projects.
