Mayor Lani distributes ‘anti-bullying’ equipment to public schools

DepEd, TESDA chiefs witness turn-over of CCTV, school furniture

All public elementary and high schools in Taguig are getting a well-needed boost from the local government as they have began receiving an array of school equipment and furniture, including anti-bullying devices, to improve their respective facilities over a two-month period.

For the months of September and October, the city government has began turning over new CCTV cameras, furniture and school supplies to the 34 public schools all over the city as part of efforts to improve the public school system.

“We want to maintain excellence in the learning experience of our students enrolled in public schools. Education has always been and will be our top priority in Taguig,” said Mayor Lani Cayetano.

“We hope that these pieces of equipment will greatly improve the quality of education our public schools provide for Taguigenos. They are also meant to be used to increase security in our schools.”

No less than Education Sec. Armin Luistro and TESDA Dir. Gen. and Sec. Joel Villanueva witnessed the turn-over of anti-bullying equipment to a public elementary school last Thursday and were visibly impressed by the efforts of the local government to enhance security in public school grounds.

In a ceremonial turn-over ceremony at the Upper Bicutan Elementary School, both Cabinet secretaries were in awe of the demonstration made on the 16 CCTV cameras given to the said school.

All 16 views of CCTV cameras were unveiled in a widescreen TV monitor set up at the school’s stage, drawing surprise and admiration from those present during the turn-over ceremonies.

“All of these efforts are aimed at making all our schools secure,” said Mayor Lani, who instituted an effective anti-bullying program in Taguig, as evidenced by the distribution of the CCTV cameras and widescreen monitors.

Luistro and Villanueva were also in Taguig to witness the distribution of armchairs made of materials from logs confiscated by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

Among the school furniture that are being distributed to public schools are office tables, swivel chairs, office chairs with upholstery, bulletin boards and cards. Some schools also took over new covered courts, waiting sheds, school buildings and cyberlabs.

Almost 90 CCTV cameras are now being given to selected schools.

From September 3 – 11, almost 511 school furniture had been turned over to 16 public schools namely: M.R Tinga HS, Upper Bicutan NHS, Bagumbayan NHS, Maharlika ES, Taguig Science HS, C.P Tinga ES, Tipas ES- Annex, Ususan ES, Tipas NHS, R.P Cruz ES, DANES, Napindan ES, KERMES- Main, B. Tanyag- Main, B-Tanyag- Annex, and B. Tanyag- B.

The turn-over ceremonies of these pieces of furniture are being spearheaded by Mayor Lani herself together with city councilors, and were witnessed by Dr. Danilo S. Gutierrez of and Dr. George Tizon of the DepEd Taguig- Pateros School Division.

The distribution of the furniture will carry on until the second week of October where almost 518 pieces of school furniture, along with the CCTV cameras and facilities, will be turned over to public schools.

Public education in Taguig is free, with students enjoying free head-to-toe uniforms, school bags and other learning materials. The city also has more than 27,000 scholars under its P300-million scholarship fund. ###
