Mayor Lani fetes two honest street sweepers who returned P95,000 in cash
Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano rewarded two street sweepers who exemplified extraordinary honesty by returning P95,000 in cash, which they accidentally discovered inside a garbage bin in PUP Compound, Lower Bicutan.
The two identified as Marilyn Campos and Analyn Aquino each received cash gifts worth P5,000 from Mayor Lani Cayetano, in addition to a promotion for better-paying jobs at the city government.
The honest street sweepers were feted in front of their fellow local government employees during the flag-raising ceremony Monday, July 18, at the Taguig City Hall quadrangle.
According to Mayor Cayetano, it is only fitting to reward Campos and Aquino who, despite poverty, set an example for other government employees to follow instead of being blinded by the glitter of money.
Mayor Cayetano called Campos and Aquino as the pride of Taguig, symbolizing the success of the Cayetano administration’s anti-corruption campaign and moral recovery program.
“We want all government workers to emulate the good example shown by Marilyn (Campos) and Analyn (Aquino), which is to exercise the will to do good in all instance, especially in a situation when no one is watching.”
Lawyer Darwin Icay, Mayor Cayetano’s spokesperson, expressed hope that the good deed committed by street sweepers Campos and Aquino would serve as an inspiration to others.
“Many tend to forget that working in the government is a public service. What these two street sweepers did was to remind us of the true meaning of public service,” Icay stressed.

Icay.
