Mayor Lani: Mobile science lab to help stimulate young minds
Taguig City public school students will finally be able to do hands-on science experiments with the new mobile science laboratory from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) which arrived last September 1.
The science equipment housed in a mobile laboratory cart, received by the Department of Education Taguig-Pateros Division (DepEd-TaPat), aims to provide a platform for teachers and students to perform experiments which they could not otherwise do due to limited facilities.
“Not all public school students get to experience hands-on science experiments, and this is a challenge faced by our teachers everyday,” said Mayor Lani Cayetano, adding she hoped the mobile laboratory cart “will help teachers make classroom discussions more fun and interactive.”
“Our students possess so much potential in achieving greater things, and this laboratory cart will assist them in understanding and discovering the wonderful world of science.”
The mobile laboratory cart that comes with the basic science equipment that includes a microscope, test tubes, flasks, beakers and scale, among others, is available for use by all public schools upon request to DepEd-TaPat.
“Sharing the same hope with DOST to improve the science learning of the students, we are grateful for this project. In turn, we must ensure that the equipment is always in good condition,” the local chief executive said.
She added the mobile science laboratory will complement other programs in Taguig such as the Computer-Assisted Learning System (CALS) in public schools under the Taguig Cyber Education Program – which incorporated the use of information and communication technology within the curriculum – in maintaining the city’s No. 1 ranking in the National Achievement Test (NAT) among Metro Manila cities this year. ###
FILIPINO VERSION:
