Orientation on the Expanded Breast Feeding Promotion Act of 2009
Taguig promotes citywide breastfeeding program!
The local government of Taguig held an Orientation on the Expanded Breast Feeding Promotion Act of 2009 last February 18 at the Taguig City Hall extension office 9th Floor, SM Aura Tower, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.
Provisions in the law requires private enterprises as well as government agencies, including government-owned and controlled corporations, to put up lactation stations.
Health institutions are also encouraged to put up breast milk banks to store pasteurized breast milk donated by breastfeeding mothers.
Just recently, Mayor Lani Cayetano received the Mother-Baby Friendly Workplace Certification for the city’s compliance with the Republic Act No. 10028 “Known as the Expanded Breastfeeding Promotion Acts of 2009”.
The Mother-Baby Friendly Workplace Certification aims to promote and encourage breastfeeding in work places both in the private and public sector. Under the certification criteria, lactation stations should be adequately provided with necessary equipment: lavatory for hand washing, refrigeration or appropriate cooling facilities for breast milk expression and storage, electrical outlets for breast pumps, a small table, comfortable seats and other items that conform to the standards defined by the Department of Health.
Currently, the city government of Taguig has two breastfeeding facilities which are located in Taguig City Hall and Taguig City Hall Extension Office, SM Aura Tower.
