Taguig adds 3,800 senior citizens in pension program

In Taguig, the lolos and lolas are happy.

 

As a result of the City’s efficient 88 percent rate of distribution of social pensions for elderly persons in the 3rd quarter of 2016, the Department of Social Welfare and Development granted Taguig an additional 3,828 beneficiary slots for the government’s social pension program. This means that the total beneficiaries of the City are now 8,071 or a jump of 90 percent from last year’s figure of 4,243.

 

“We are very pleased with this opportunity because more Taguigeño senior citizens will benefit from the social pension program,” Ramonita Jordan, head of the Office for Senior Citizen Affairs (OSCA) said.

 

The P1,500 social pension is given quarterly in cash to beneficiaries. Indigent senior citizens are gathered depending on their barangays for the distribution. For the first quarter of 2017, the social pension distribution will run for seven days from April 3-5 at the Ususan Covered Court, April 6-7 at the North Signal Plaza 7 and April 10-11 at the Taguig Lakeshore Hall.

 

Pensioners are required to bring their senior citizen ID card and a signed photocopy of the said ID card. Authorized representatives should bring an authorization letter, the senior citizen card of the beneficiary, a valid ID card and a photo of the senior citizen holding a newspaper dated before the scheduled payout.

 

The recipients are indigent senior citizens of the city who have documents which prove that they are not receiving any pension from other government agencies like the Social Security System (SSS), Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) and Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO).

 

Mrs. Jordan noted that the monetary assistance from the government has been a huge help to the elderly, who are mostly widows whose children already have their own families to take care of.

 

Asked how her office was able to attain a high efficiency rating for the distribution of the social pension, Jordan said that strictly adhering to DSWD rules was the key.

 

She revealed that her office places a premium on the comfort of the city’s elderly indigents when they come to receive their pension.

 

During the distribution of social pension, Jordan said that snacks and beverages are given to the beneficiaries to make sure they feel comfortable and well-cared for.

 

Apart from their pension, elderly indigents in Taguig receive birthday cash gifts amounting to P1,000.  And for the past three (3) years, resident centenarians have been receiving P100,000 annually.

 

The City also conducts house-to-house delivery of free maintenance medicines for diabetes, high blood and asthma. The elderly is also the one of the top priorities for the TLC Home Care Service, a program which the city pioneered in 2015 to provide free nursing services to residents at the comfort of their own homes. Senior citizens can also avail of free eye checkups and prescription glasses under the Oplan Linaw program.

 

It’s not all about physical welfare however. The City also wants its senior citizens to enjoy leisure activities. Thus, they can also avail and enjoy free film showing every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday at movie houses located in the city.

 

The city government also plans to build a 5-story building with a park that will serve as a recreational area for its elderly citizens. ###

Karagdagang 3,800 seniors kasama na sa social pension program ng Taguig

 

Masaya ang mga lolo at lola sa Taguig matapos madagdagan ang bilang ng mga nakikinabang na “seniors” sa “social pension program” ng lokal na pamahalaan.

 

Ayon sa Department of Social Welfare and Development ng lungsod, mayroon nang kabuuang 8,071 na seniors ang nabibiyayaan ng social pension program sa ngayon mula sa bilang na 4,243 sa nakalipas na taon.

 

Ang karagdagan sa bilang ng mga seniors na napaloob sa social pension program ay bunga ng mahusay na pamamahagi ng pension na umabot sa 88 porsyento mula Hulyo hanggang Setyembre noong nakaraang taon (third quarter 2016).

 

“Kami ay natutuwa sa pagkakataong ito dahil mas maraming seniors na Taguigeño na ngayon ang makikinabang sa social pension program,” sabi ni Ramonita Jordan, tagapangasiwa ng Office for Senior Citizen Affairs (OSCA).

 

Ang salaping P1,500 na social pension ay binibigay ng pamahalaang lungsod ng Taguig sa mga mahirap na seniors tuwing ikatlong buwan sa bawat barangay. Sa unang ikatlong buwan ng kasalukuyang taon, ang social pension ay ipamamahagi sa loob ng isang linggo mula April 3 hangang April 5 sa Ususan Covered Court; North Signal Plaza 7 (April 6-7) at Taguig Lakeshore Hall (April 10-11).

 

Para makuha ang pension, ang mga “pensioners” ay kailangang magpakita ng kanilang “senior citizen ID card” at isang kopyang seroks nito. Kung sakaling ang kukuha ng pensyon ay isang kamag-anak ng senior, kailangang magpakita ng isang balidong ID ng senior at isang litrato ng naturang senior citizen na may hawak na dyaryo na ang petsa ay bago ang nakatakdang pagbibigay ng pension.

 

Para makatanggap ng pension mula sa pamahalaang lungsod, kinakailangang mapatunayan ng isang senior na di sila tumatanggap ng anumang pension mula sa Social Security System (SSS), Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) at Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO).

 

Ayon kay Jordan, ang tulong pinansyal ng pamalaan ng Taguig ay nakakatulong ng malaki sa mga matatanda o “seniors” ng lungsod na karamihan ay mga balo na ang mga anak ay may mga sarili nang mga pamilya.

 

Nilinaw din ni Jordan na matapat nilang sinusundan ang mga panuntunan ng DSWD sa pamamahagi ng pension.

 

Ang ginhawa ng mga matatanda ang isinasaalang-alang ng OSCA sa tuwing kukunin nila ang kanilang pension.

 

Ayon kay Jordan, ang mga seniors ay binibigyan ng meryenda at inumin sa tuwing sila ay tatanggap ng pension sa OSCA.

 

Maliban sa salaping pension, ang mga mahihirap na seniors ng Taguig ay tumatanggap din ng P1,000 na salaping regalo sa kanilang kaarawan. Sa nakalipas na tatlong taon, ang mga seniors na umabot sa edad na 100 ay nakakatanggap din ng salaping P100,00 kada taon mula sa pamahalaang lokal.

 

Karagdagan sa tulong pinansyal, ang pamahalaang lokal ng Taguig ay nagsasagawa rin ng pagbisita sa mga tirahan ng mga matatandang residente para mamahagi ng “maintenance” na gamot para sa diabetes, alta presyon at hika.

 

Ang mga “senior citizens” din ng Taguig ang may priyoridad sa TLC Home Care Service, isang programa ng lungsod na sinimulan noong taong 2015 para magbigay ng libreng pagaalaga o “nursing” sa kanilang sariling mga tahanan. Ang mga “senior citizens” din ay binibigyan ng libreng pagsusuri sa mata at libreng mga salamin sa mata sa ilalim ng programang “Oplan Linaw.”

 

Ninanais din ng Taguig City na maging masaya ang mga “senior citizens” kaya’t maari silang manuod ng sine ng libre tuwing Lunes, Martes at Myerkules sa anumang sinehan sa lungsod. Pinaplano din ng pamahalaang lungsod na magtayo ng isang limang palapag na gusali na magsisilbing “recreational area” para sa mga seniors. ###
