Taguig bags its 1st Year CROWN Maintenance Award for quality nutrition programs
Taguig City again proved that the continuous implementation of excellent nutrition programs is possible as it was named one of the 1st Year Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) Maintenance Awardees during the 2017 Nutrition Awarding Ceremony held at the Philippine International Convention Center, Pasay City on December 12, 2017.
“We are very ecstatic to receive this award because it shows that we are very committed in providing good public service to our community,” Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano said.
A CROWN trophy and P100,000 cash prize were conferred by the National Nutrition Council to Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano, City Health Office officer-in-charge Dr. Erlinda Rayos Del Sol, Councilor Rodil “Tikboy” Marcelino, Taguig City’s Dr. Marie Irene Sy and City Nutrition Action Officer Julie Bernabe during the awarding ceremony.
Taguig City is one of the nine (9) local government units (LGUs) which was handed its 1st Year CROWN Maintenance Award. The recognition is awarded to an LGU for maintaining an outstanding and consistent implementation of its nutrition action plan. Taguig City is the sole recipient from the National Capital Region.
The said award stemmed from the 4-day validation visit led by the National Evaluation Team (NET) last April 18-21, 2017 where Taguig proudly presented its nutritional programs and highlighted the innovative and unique nutrition interventions done only in Taguig.
To ensure the success of its nutrition programs, Taguig City extends their agenda to mothers-to-be by conducting the congress “Laging Alagaan Nutrisyon ni Inay” where pregnant women especially those still in their teenage years are taught of proper diet and lifestyle to ensure safe and healthy pregnancy.
Taguig City also includes exclusive breastfeeding promotion for infants from 0-6 months and appropriate complementary feeding, and the Food Assistance program under which undernourished children in the city are fed for 90 days to help them get the nutrition their bodies need.
Aside from this, the city also encourages families with children to establish their own urban community vegetable gardens by providing seedlings and planting materials through the City Agriculture Office.
Mayor Lani Cayetano lauded the various efforts of all the department involved in making this achievement possible.
“It is truly a collaborative effort of all those involved that we have achieved this prestigious recognition. Rest assured that we will continue to strive and work even harder to maintain the efficiency and sustainability of our programs in order to achieve the National Nutrition Council’s top award – the Nutrition Honor Award,” the lady mayor concluded. ###

Dekalidad na programang pangnutrisyon
1st Year CROWN Maintenance Award nasungkit ng Taguig
