Taguig City aims to be haven for artists

In line with its ambition to be a home for the country’s top artists, the City of Taguig recently opened a Visual Arts Exhibit in celebration of the National Arts Month last February. The exhibit, which showcased art pieces crafted by guest sculpture artist Moralde Arrogante along with homegrown artists, was held at the Lakeshore Hall in Brgy. Lower Bicutan, Taguig.

Among the eye-catching art pieces which were displayed among the sea of artistry are renowned Taguig sculpture artist Danny Rayos Del Sol’s intricately carved ostrich eggs that depicts the Last Supper. Arnel Borja’s wood and stainless steel sculpture entitled F8 (Faith) and Moralde Arrogante’s (Chop Chop Fish n’ Chips with mermaid) sculpture made of recycled materials also graced the exhibit.

Other local artists featured in the exhibit included Roderick Amit, Sonny Anecito, Journie Alunan, Michaella Balbuena, Elbert Caballero, Elberto Caballero, Chealsea Go, Madeleine Gonzales, Glorene Moreno and Rice Ramos.

Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano has expressed the city’s desire to be the home of art creators and producers.

“Our dream is to shape the city of Taguig as a place that is capable of producing creative and aesthetically skilled artists,” Mayor Lani Cayetano stated in her speech during the exhibit’s opening.

Spouse of Mr. Rayos Del Sol and ManilArt Fair director, Ms. Tess Rayos Del Sol also expressed her gratitude to the local government for organizing the said event which she said introduces the young audiences to the world of visual arts since it is not only for aesthetic purposes but they learn about the culture, their heritage, and they learn about the individual history of each artist by analyzing it, “Thank you Mayor Lani for giving these children the chance to be exposed to these kind of activities,” she said.

Along with the exhibit, an on-the- spot painting contest for elementary, high school, college and individuals ages 21 years old and above was also conducted by the local government with the participants given an opportunity to showcase and display their artistic talents.

The city of Taguig has also been supporting ManilArt since 2013. The exhibit is the longest running art fair in the country that showcases and promotes Filipino culture, heritage and history through various kinds of visual arts crafted by local artists. ###

Taguig City naglalayong maging tahanan ng mga alagad ng sining

Bilang pakikiisa sa selebrasyon ng National Arts Month noong Pebrero, pinasinayaan ng Taguig City ang isang “Visual Arts Exhibit” sa Lakeshore Hall, sa Brgy. Lower Bicutan.

Ilan sa mga likhang sining na ipinakita sa publiko ay ang paglalarawan ni Danny Rayos del Sol sa “Last Supper” o Huling Hapunan gamit ang mga inukit na itlog ng ostrich; isang iskultura na pinamagatang “F8” (Faith) ni Arnel Borja na gawa naman sa kahoy at stainless steel, at ang “Chop Chop Fish n’ Chips with Mermaid,” isang  iskultura ni Moralde Arrogante na gawa naman sa mga “recycled” na materyales.

Lumahok din sa naturang “visual arts exhibit” ang ibang lokal na alagad ng sining ng Taguig kabilang sina Roderick Amit, Sonny Anecito, Journie Alunan, Michaella Balbuena, Elbert Caballero, Elberto Caballero, Chealsea Go, Madeleine Gonzales, Glorene Moreno, at Rice Ramos.

Ipinahayag naman ni Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano ang kanyang hangarin na maging tahanan ng mga mahuhusay na alagad ng sining ang lungsod ng Taguig dahil na rin sa angking kakayahan at potensyal ng mga Taguigeño sa larangan ng sining.

Ipinaabot naman ni Tess Rayos del Sol ang kanyang taos-pusong pasasalamat sa lokal na pamahalaan ng Taguig sa pagkakaroon ng exhibit. Ayon kay Tess, ang mga art exhibits ay nagbibigay ng pagkakataon sa mga kabataang Taguigeño para mas makilala nila ang sariling kultura, kalinangan, at maging ang mga istorya sa likod ng bawat nilikhang obra. Si Tess ay maybahay ni Danny del Sol at kasalukuyang direktor ng ManilArt Fair.

Kaugnay nito, nagsagawa rin ng “on-the-spot painting contest” ang lokal na pamahalaan ng Taguig para sa mga mag-aaral sa elementarya, high school at kolehiyo at para rin sa mga pintor na na may edad 21 pataas.

Simula pa noong taong 2013 ay sinusuportahan na ng bayan ng Taguig ang ManilArt na siyang tinaguriang “longest running art exhibit” sa buong bansa. ###
