Taguig City Hall employees to undergo gender sensitivity training

Over 6,000 employees of the Taguig City Hall will be undertaking gender sensitivity training starting today (June 27) in order to be more responsive in the delivery of public service especially when women and children are involved.

This activity will be facilitated by the city government’s Gender and Development (GAD) Council.

“As part of our continuing efforts to make the delivery of public service more effective, we are requiring our employees here at city hall to undergo training on gender sensitivity. I believe that we would be more responsive to the needs of our constituents if we were aware of their rights,” said Mayor Lani Cayetano, who is also the chairperson of Taguig’s GAD Council.

“Although here in Taguig we do not condone gender discrimination in the performance of our mandate to provide Taguigenos with social services, it would still be appropriate if our public servants undergo formal training on gender equality,” Mayor Lani noted.

According to Gemma D. Dancil, city director of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and head of the GAD Council secretariat, the training will be undertaken in tranches so as to accommodate the volume of city hall employees.

She said the employees will be divided into 20 batches of 300 participants each. For June 27, one batch will receive training in the morning while another batch will be attending the exercise in the afternoon.

“This was agreed upon so as not to disrupt the delivery of public service to the people,” Dancil said.

The venue of the gender sensitivity training will be at the Taguig City Auditorium, she said. The schedule of the succeeding days of training will be announced as it is finalized.

“The employees will receive basic gender sensitivity training. They will be familiarized with the basic concepts of gender equality and how to deliver services without discrimination as to gender,” Dancil said.

She added that participants will also be taught on the rights of women under specific laws of the country.

Dancil said the plan to require city hall employees to take gender sensitivity lessons was agreed upon during the GAD Council’s planning seminar held last month.
