Taguig City opens first Independence Day job fair

The local government of Taguig will be organizing its first Independence Day job fair at Vista Mall in Barangay Ususan on June 12, 2017.

The Independence Day job fair, organized in coordination with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) aims to provide a venue for Taguigeños to look for employment that will help further improve the living conditions of their families.

“We hope that through this job fair, we will be able to assist applicants who are in search of jobs and also help the employers in finding the competent workers for their businesses,” Public Employment Services Office officer-in-charge Mr. Norman Mirabel said.

According to Mirabel, they chose to hold the job fair on Independence Day to make it more accessible to Taguig job applicants, who will receive a free orientation before being endorsed to their potential employers.

PESO expects over 500 job hunting applicants in the event that will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Most of the companies participating in the job fair are situated in the city. Positions offered in the fair will range from professional and technical-vocational workers, customer service representatives, call center agents to reporting specialists, technical support representatives, and collection officers.

“Job fairs are important because they allow both employers and jobseekers to meet and share information in an informal setting. It is a great way to explore career opportunities within a variety of companies at one location,” Mirabel noted.

Taguig City is the lone local government unit in the National Capital Region (NCR) that conducts a job fair in its different barangays for 5 consecutive days, and one in its main office thrice a week.

Pursuant to the program of the national government, PESO also organizes the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) that benefits around 1,000 individuals in the city. Through this, out-of-school youths and students from Taguig are able to get summer jobs while having their school break.

The third and last batch of students to participate in SPES for this year will start their respective duties on June 13 and will finish on July 10, 2017.

The Taguig government will also be organizing its 5th batch of Jobstart Philippines, a program which aims to assist young Filipinos in career development by enabling them to improve and develop the necessary technical and life skills in the workplace.

In 2016, Taguig City was able to conduct 107 job fairs throughout the whole year where 12,718 applicants were successfully hired.

“1st Independence Day job fair” sa Taguig City bubuksan

“We hope that through this job fair, we will be able to assist applicants who are in search of jobs and also help the employers in finding the competent workers for their businesses,” pahayag ni Mr.  Norman Mirabel, officer-in-charge ng Public Employment Services Office (PESO).

“Job fairs are important because they allow both employers and jobseekers to meet and share information in an informal setting. It is a great way to explore career opportunities within a variety of companies at one location,” dagdag pa ni Mirabel.
