Taguig City’s scholarship fund increased to P600 million for 2016.

Over 30,000 city scholars in just four years!

The local government of Taguig has upped the funding of the LANI Scholarship Program from P500 million to P600 million for 2016.

Taguig City’s scholarship fund began with a P100-million budget in 2011 from a measly P5 million appropriated by the previous administration.

The seed money came from the previous administration’s budget for garbage hauling which Mayor Lani Cayetano slashed by P100 million.

The fund had been increased by P100 million year after year since 2011.

Mayor Lani expressed confidence that the program that has so far aided over 30,000 scholars will continue to help Taguig students achieve their dreams through the benefits of obtaining post-secondary education, including tech-voc, college, masters and doctoral degrees.

“By now we are absolutely sure we invested the city’s hard-earned funds in developing its most precious resource: our children. We invested wisely in human capital and now we are reaping its benefits. This is a priceless legacy that we want to be remembered for,” Mayor Lani expressed.

“Our gratitude goes to members of the City Council who affixed their stamp of approval to the program not only by voting to continue the scholarship grant but increasing it again by P100 million. And most of all, we thank the Taguig taxpayers for making this fund even possible.”

Mayor Lani’s administration have committed to giving quality and accessible education to each resident of Taguig. And five years after the LANI Scholarship Program was established, the city is now reaping the fruits of its investment.

“Through our scholarship program the access to quality education was made possible. We have so far produced at least 70 graduates with Latin distinction (summa, magna cum laude) and 13 Top 10 board passers in nursing, engineering, nutritionists-dieticians and other licensure examinations,” the mayor said.

“Some of them are now employed by the city government and serve as our nurses, nutritionists-dieticians and engineers. They chose to serve the city and pay forward the scholarship that helped them achieve their dreams.”

As of November 2015, there are over 30,000 LANI scholars. The city also produced over 900 brilliant scholars that passed different licensure examinations and are now full-fledged professionals.

LANI Scholarship Program covers technical/vocational courses, degree courses, graduate studies, medicine, law, and reviews.

The city government scholarship program offers a wide range of educational support. They offer Premier, Full, Priority Courses, and Skills Training financial assistance to the best and the brightest students.

Other high school graduates can also avail grants under the Basic Scholarship category. Review Assistance and Leadership and Educators Advancement and Development (LEAD) scholarship grants are also supported by the city government.
