Taguig continues comprehensive fight vs Dengue

Long socks as protective clothing distributed to thousands of students

Teaching schoolkids to protect themselves from the dreaded dengue was the next step in Taguig City’s comprehensive work to address the spread of the disease.

On September 18, the city government distributed long socks to thousands of youngsters, in a bid to introduce “Self-Protection” measures to them. Self-Protection is an important component of the 4-S campaign which also includes “Search and destroy mosquito-breeding sites,” “Seek early consultation” and “Support fogging/spraying.”

The long socks went to more than 2,800 Daycare, Kinder and Grades 1-3 pupils at EM’S Signal Village Elementary School (ESVES). Some 1,575 female pupils enrolled in Grades 4-6 are also received two pairs of high-knee socks each.

Starting with the ceremonial distribution in ESVES, the City will also distribute long socks to male and female enrollees from Daycare, Kinder and Grades 1-3 and female students from Grades 4 to 12 in all public elementary and high schools across the city. The initiative will be spearheaded by the City Health Office and Local School Board.

“Nagpapasalamat po ako dahil bibigyan po kami ng libreng medyas,” said Grade 6 pupil Kim Nicole D. Solon, the Supreme Pupil Government president of ESVES.

“Makakatulong po ito para ma-prevent po yung pagkagat po sa amin ng mga lamok at maiwasan na rin po yung dengue.”

The distribution came after the Dengue Prevention and Control Program, during which pupils and teachers underwent a short lecture on the signs and symptoms of dengue and how to prevent it.

“The students see these kind of campaigns on television but it’s still different when they get to learn and experience it up close, that’s why we’re really grateful,” ESVES Grade 6 teacher Lilia D. Garcia noted.

Schools are just one of the key target areas of Taguig’s comprehensive approach to the nationwide dengue outbreak.

For instance, after the ovitrap trainings, the city government will install ovitraps across the city to prevent the breeding of Aedes aegypti, the main vector transmitting the dengue virus.

The city held the information campaign and distribution program after opening a Dengue Fast Lane and a Dengue Ward at the Taguig Pateros District Hospital.

Prior to this, on July 17-19, barangay captains and other stakeholders participated in the first-ever Taguig Dengue Summit. A few weeks later, Taguig City went on a simultaneous dengue cleanup drive on August 16.

Last Saturday, the local government held the General Parents-Teachers Association: Dengue Summit which encouraged Taguigeño parents and educators to participate in fighting dengue by informing them of effective ways on how to prevent the disease either at home or at school.

Continuing on its programs, the community-based cleanups are continuing without letup. Misting operations are also conducted in areas where several cases were recorded; and barangay health workers, teachers and even Taguig City Univeristy’s council trained to use the ovitrap.

Taguig is also maximizing social media and distributing information and education campaign materials.

“In Taguig, we take the health of our constituents seriously,” Mayor Lino Cayetano said, noting that this was in line with his ten-point agenda, particularly addressing the Healthy City program.

Mayor Lino said the city government will not stop there.

“The city government is doing all that it possibly can to protect its constituents from any disease, including Dengue,” added Mayor Lino. ###

Mahahabang medyas bilang pananggalang sa lamok ibinahagi sa libu-libong estudyante

Kasama ang pagturo na protektahan ang mga estudyante sa sakit na dengue sa hakbang ng Taguig upang sugpuing tuluyan ang pagkalat ng dengue sa syudad.

Noong September 18, ang pamahalaang lungsod ng Taguig ay namahagi ng mahahabang medyas sa libo-libong kabataan upang matutunan nila ang tinatawag na “Self-Protection.”

Ang Self-Protection ay mahalagang sangkap sa 4-S campaign kung saan kasama rin dito ang “Search and destroy mosquito-breeding sites o ang paghagilap at pagsawata ng mga lugar itlugan ng lamok,” “Seek early consultation” o ang maagap na pagkonsulta sa duktor, at ang “Support fogging/spraying” o ang pagsuporta sa fogging operation.

Ang mahabang medyas ay ipinamigay sa mahigit 2,800 Daycare, Kinder at Grade 1-3 na mga estudyante sa EM’S Signal Village Elementary School (ESVES). Mga 1,575 kababaihang estudyante sa Grade 4-6 ay nabigyan din ng dalawang pares ng high-knee na medyas bawat isa.

Sa pasimula ng seremonya sa pagbahagi ng medyas sa ESVES, ang lungsod ay takdang mamahagi rin ng mahabang medyas sa mga kababaihan at kalalakihang enrollees sa Daycare, Kinder at Grade 1-3 at sa mga kababaihang estudyante mula sa Grade 4-12 sa lahat ng public elementary at high school sa buong lungsod. Pangungunahan ito ng City Health Office at ng Local School Board.

Ang pamamahagi ay naganap matapos ang Dengue Prevention and Control Program, kung saan ang mga estudyante at guro ay sumailalim ng pagsasanay upang malaman ang unang simtomas ng dengue at kung paano masugpo ito.

Ang mga eskwelahan at ilan lamang sa key target areas para sa komprehensibong programa ng Taguig para labanan ang dengue outbreak sa bansa.

Kasama rito ang pagsagawa ng pagsasanay para sa paglalagay ng ovitrap, kung saan ang city government ay magpapalaganap ng paglalagay ng ovitraps sa buong syudad upang masawata ang lugar itlugan ng Aedes aegypti, ang lamok na nagkakalat ng dengue virus.

Ang studad ay nagsasagawa rin ng information campaign ant distribution program matapos buksan ang Dengue Fast Lane o ang Dengue Ward sa Taguig Pateros District Hospital.

Bago ito, noong July 17-19, ang mga barangay captain at iba pang  stakeholders ay lumahok sa kauna-unahang Taguig Dengue Summit. Ilang linggo ang nakalipad, ang Taguig City ay nagsagawa ng malawakang dengue cleanup drive noong August 16.

Noong nakaraang Linggo, ang local government ng Taguig ay nagsagawa rin ng General Parents-Teachers Association: Dengue Summit kung saan hinikayat ang mga Taguigeñong magulang at mga educator na labanan ang dengue sa pamamagitan ng pamamaraan na mabisa sa pagsugpo ng dengue sa bahay man o eskwelahan.

Sa pagpapatuloy ng programa, ang mga ginagawang paglinis sa mga komunidad ay walang puknat. Kasama rito ang

misting operations sa mga lugar na may naitalang kaso ng dengue; at sinasanay din ang mga barangay health workers, teachers maging ang Taguig City Univeristy council kung paano gamitin ang ovitrap.

Ikinakalat din ng Taguig sa social media ang mga impormasyon sa dengue at ang education campaign materials.

“Sa Taguig, seryoso ang pamahalaang lokal sa kalusugan ng aming kababayan lalo na sa mga estudyante na palaging nasa labas ng bahay,” saad ni Mayor Lino Cayetano habang ipinapaliwanag na kasama sa ten-point agenda ang mga mabisang Healthy City program.

Hindi lang rito natatapos ang programa ng lungsod.

“Ang city government ay patuloy na gumagawa ng mga hakbang upang protektahan ang nasasakupan sa mga sakit kasama na ang dengue,” added Mayor Lino. ###
