Taguig gets twin awards on children’s welfare, education programs

Taguig has added two awards in its growing list of citations recognizing the city’s pioneering spirit when it comes to the implementation of programs for its constituents.

Last November 28, Taguig received the Seal of Child Friendly Local Governance from the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC) for its efforts in delivering services for the protection and welfare of children.

Two days later, the Federation of Associations of Private Schools & Administrators (FAPSA) during its 17th General Assembly awarded Taguig and Mayor Lani Cayetano a plaque of recognition for its programs in improving the quality of education in the city.

“We in Taguig are very much honored to receive these awards. This is for all the hardworking city hall employees who make these programs happen. They are really the ones behind these successes,” Mayor Lani said.
According to Department of Interior and Local Government-Taguig Director Gemma Dancil, the LGUs were chosen based on the results of the child-friendly local governance audit conducted to assess the performance of the local government unit in the delivery of social services on child and youth welfare.

They were assessed on their legislations and programs promoting the welfare of children; functionality of local council in protecting children and city accomplishments and facilities, among many others.

FAPSA, meanwhile, recognized Mayor Lani’s administration for its implementation of the Taguig Learners Certificate (TLC) Program, an enhanced version of the DepEd GASTPE Program.

Under the TLC program, public schools students are given scholarships to transfer to private schools.

Under the TLC, transferred students from public schools receive higher financial aid than what is offered by the GASTPE program.

“We take pride in delivering only the best services for our people.  This is the same spirit that drives all our other programs for the city,” Mayor Lani said.

“These are all being made possible because we were able to stamp out corruption and increase the city’s income without increasing taxes. Now we spend more on benefits for every Taguig family.”

Series of awards in 2013 alone

During the four years that Mayor Lani is the city’s chief executive, Taguig has been the recipient of so many awards.

This year alone, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) cited the city’s Public Employement Service Office (PESO) as the 3rd Best PESO in Metro Manila for 2013.

It was also awarded by the National Association of UNESCO Clubs in the Philippines Inc. as the 2014 Outstanding LGU last September 23 at the Atrium Hotel, Pasay City.

The National Nutrition Council-National Capital Region (NNC-NCR) also awarded Taguig the Green Banner title during the 2014 Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony held last August 29.

Taguig City was also among the top 10 cities recognized for the excellent use of information and communication technologies for the advancement of the delivery of services during the 2014 E-readiness Leadership Awards held last June18 at the Hotel Intercontinental Manila.

And early this year, Mayor Lani was recognized as one of the partners/benefactors at the opening ceremony of the NCR “Palarong Panrehiyon 2014” and “Parangal at Pasasalamat 2013” held at Pinagbuhatan Shrine, San Juan City last January 20 for her continuous support for DepEd-NCR. ###
