Taguig honors outstanding, most beautiful citizens in its 427th Founding Anniversary
The local government of Taguig is celebrating its 427th Founding Anniversary this weekend by crowning the 2014 “Mutya ng Taguig” and by honoring its most outstanding citizens who continue to symbolize and embody the city’s unwavering pursuit of excellence in all fields of endeavors.
“This year, we want to make our celebrations a little bit more solemn as we try to emulate the best in Taguigenos. This time we honor those who made us proud and thankful for the reasons behind everything we do in our city: that is to invest in our people,” Mayor Lani said.
The Mutya ng Taguig Grand Coronation Night will be held tonight at 7. It will be held at the Samsung Hall, SM Aura, Bonifacio Global City where Mayor Lani herself will crown the young lady who will best represent Taguig.
The celebration itself is a testament of 427 years of rich history and continuous progress.
“The Mutya showcases not only the beauty of the Taguigena, but also her intelligence and virtues. I am proud of these young ladies because they represent the best side of Taguig,” the local chief executive said.
Tomorrow, April 27, will be the culmination of the Foundation Week activities, where Taguig City will honor the individuals who gave pride to the city with their achievements and contributions to the community in a simple ceremony at the Taguig City University Auditorium at around 5 p.m.
One of the most notable in the list awardees is now Engineer Pol John Cruz, a full LANI (Lifeline Assistance for Neighbors In-need) scholar who gave pride and honor to Taguig when he topped the nationwide Electrical Engineering Board Examination this year.
“It gives us a great sense of pride to call Pol John Cruz a Taguigeno. He is one living testament that we made a very good decision when we allocated a huge part of our resources to our scholarship programs and breathe life to the dreams of our children,” Mayor Lani said.
The LANI Scholarship Fund, now at P400 million, is the biggest of its kind among LGUs all over the country today.
Other awardees include Danny Rayos del Sol, a pioneer of ostrich egg sculpting in the country; Bb. Pilipinas International 2014 Mary Anne Bianca Guidotti; other board exam topnotchers; students of Senator Renato “Compañero” Cayetano Memorial Science and Technology High School who won in various international Math competitions; bar exam passers; Taguig war veterans; and the Taguig City University Varsity Pep Squad.
Taguig City’s barangays will also showcase their creativity with hand-crafted kites on the same day during the Kite Flying Competition to be held at C-6 Road, Barangay Napindan. ###
