Taguig Lines Up Fun-Filled, Meaningful Events for its 425th Foundation Day Celebrations
The City Government of Taguig has lined up a series of fun-filled yet meaningful activities for the week-long celebration of the city’s 425th Foundation Day, starting April 22 and culminating in the Grand Coronation of the Mutya ng Taguig 2012 on April 28.
To kick start the week-long celebration, Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano will lead the “Martsa ng Kabataan, Trabaho at Kabuhayan” to be followed by a ceremonial ribbon-cutting signaling the opening of the 7-day Taguig Livelihood Career Expo 2012.
Other activities slated include the following: Libreng Sakay “Pagpupugay sa Sipag ng Manggagawang Tagigenyo” (free ride during rush hours within the city proper); “Sine Libre”, a movie date of Mayor Lani with 1,000 Lolos and Lolas at the SM City Bicutan; and the blessing of P105 million-worth of disaster preparedness vehicles, equipment and barangay responder/mini ambulance.
Mayor Lani will also lead the awarding ceremonies for deserving cooperatives in a simple program dubbed as: “Sa Kooperatiba, Buhay ay Giginhawa: Parangal para sa Pinakamahusay sa Kooperatiba sa Taguig.”
There would also be a Kite Flying Competition with the theme: “Lipad, Lipunang Maunlad”, a two-day medical and dental mission for the city’s indigents, as well a 5-day job fair.
Additional activities scheduled during the week-long festivities include the city-sponsored Gig sa Taguig and Hotdog Concert; Bike Ride for a Cause; TODA Tapatan: Palarong Pinoy 2012 with tricycle operators and drivers as participants; basketball try-outs for 2012 PBA Coca-Cola young star; and Special Education Development (SPED) Family Day.
There would also be social-services related activities like Palay seedlings distribution to selected farmer-beneficiaries; groundbreaking and inauguration of Halfway Houses in District 1 and District 2, respectively; lake seeding, awarding of financial assistance for fire victims of Ibayo-Tipas, as well as whole day Mobile passport service on April 28, where Taguigenos can have their travel documents processed without having to go to the Dept. of Foreign Affairs office.
Mayor Lani is also scheduled to host a luncheon with the officers and members of Taguig homeowner’s association on April 26; and officiate the mass wedding or Kasalang Bayan for 150 couples.
Of course, the celebrations would not be complete without a fireworks display, which would light up the skies over District 1 and District 2 between 5-6 p.m. on Thursday, April 26.
Taguig residents will also be treated to street dancing during the “Indakan sa Bonifacio Global City” featuring the Taga-Giik Street Dancing group that showcases the unique culture and arts of Taguig.
In recognition of the senior citizens’ dedication of love and care for their family, Mayor Lani will award plaque and cash incentive to each of five identified Centenarians of the city.
Among the centenarian-awardees are the following: Romana Gimodo, 104, born on January 5, 1908, is resident of J. Ramos St., Ibayo Tipas; Macaria Bunyi Eustaquio, who turns 101 last April 8, and was born on April 8, 1911, of No. 42 F. Manalo St., Ligid Tipas; Juana Sta. Ana Sanga, 102, born on June 12, 1910, of No. 48 F. Manalo St., Ligid Tipas; Lapaz Palmes, 102, born on September 10, 1910, of Block 30 Lot 50, Barangay Central Bicutan; and Felisa B. Holmes, 100, born on March 17, 1912, of No. 6 Guyabano St., Zone 1, Signal Village.
This is the first time in Taguig that centenarians will be honored and recognized for their contributions to the society.
Apart from the city-wide celebrations, barangay-level activities would also be held in connection with the Taguig founding anniversary, including the 4-day “Summer Program for Kids”, where children can sing, dance, act, and paint. Barangay Nights will also be held for in the evening for 5 days with competitions in singing, dancing, pick-up battle, rap as well as for the title of L”ittle Mr. and Ms. Taguig”.
To culminate the week-long foundation day, the Lady Mayor will crown the winning candidates to the Mutya ng Taguig 2012 beauty tilt who will be named as Mutya ng Taguig 2012 International, Bb. Pilipinas Taguig, Ms. Earth Taguig, Mutya ng Taguig Pilipinas and Ms. Taguig World, respectively.
Special prizes will also be awarded to winning candidates for the following categories: Best in Long Gown, Best in Swimsuit, Best in Talent Champion, 1st Runner Up and 2nd Runner Up, the Ms. Photogenic, Ms. Congeniality and Best in National Costume.
