Taguig opens seven new school buildings
Ready for the start of school year
Taguig public school students will welcome the start of the new school year with seven newly constructed school buildings.
Mayor Lani Cayetano said that this development will boost the city government’s goal to achieve single class shifts in all of Taguig’s 36 public schools.
Dr. George Tizon, Department of Education Taguig and Pateros (DepEd TAPAT) administrator, stressed that starting Monday, nine out of 36 public schools will hold their classes in a single shift.
“If not for the implementation of K-12, there would be more single shift classes this year.”
On Monday, students and teachers can start using the newly-constructed school buildings in Taguig Science High School; Diosdado Macapagal High School; Dr. Artemio Natividad Elementary School; C.P. Sta. Teresa Elementary School; Kapt. Eddie Reyes Memorial Elementary School; Bagong Tanyag Elementary School; and Ricardo P. Cruz Sr. Elementary School.
The new school buildings were funded by the Taguig City government except for the Ricardo P. Cruz Sr. Elementary School which is a project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
Four other city-funded infrastructures are still in the construction phase.
Under Mayor Lani’s administration, the students of public schools have received superb treatment.
Their classrooms are air-conditioned; students from pre-school to high school are provided with complete sets of uniforms; bag; shoes; school supplies; grooming kits; free prescription eyeglasses; and a solid dental health program.
Taguig is ranked number one in the National Capital Region’s National Achievement Test (NAT), far from its old self as a cellar dweller and number 13 before Mayor Lani assumed office in 2010.
Mayor Lani expects a smooth opening of classes on Monday as she has directed all the departments of the city government to ensure a safe and orderly opening of classes.
Special instructions were issued to the Police and the Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) to secure all the schools; the Traffic Management Office (TMO) to ensure a continuous flow of traffic, and the Solid Waste Management Office (SWMO) to maintain cleanliness.###
FILIPINO VERSION:
Sta. Teresa Elementary School; Kapt.
