Taguig police to enforce strict measures vs. crime this Holy Week

Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano has directed the local police force under Senior Supt. Arthur Felix Asis to keep an eye out for criminal groups that may attempt to disrupt peace and order during the observance of Holy Week.

“Holy Week is a time of reflection for everyone; it does not matter which denomination of faith you belong to. Maintaining peace and order during this time of solemnity is of utter importance in Taguig, which is a multicultural and highly diverse city,” Mayor Lani said.

“Unfortunately, criminals do not take holidays, even on Holy Week. It is for this reason that I’ve instructed the Taguig City Police to enforce measures that would pre-empt unscrupulous groups from having their way in Taguig,” she added.

Responding to the chief executive’s call, Asis mobilized his intelligence operatives to identify possible threats to local security as the usually bustling city of Taguig and its residents settle down to holiday mode.

“So far, there have been no reports of threats specifically from crime groups or syndicates that may want to penetrate the city to do their bidding,” the chief-of-police revealed.

Asis added, as if giving out a stern warning to evil doers: “We in the PNP (Philippine National Police) do not let our guards down even if everyone else is vacationing.”

The police official stressed that the current security situation is “manageable”, thanks to the assistance of barangay watchmen (tanods) who serve as partners of the police in keeping the peace and going after perpetrators of crime.

Asis said he wants to make good use of the Taguig Police Station’s 352 cops by deploying at least four of them to each of the city’s 28 barangays.

“There are many ingress-egress points here. What we need to do is to strengthen the sectors wherein we can deploy our police to. With the help of our tanods, we can seal Taguig City from unwanted persons or criminals,” he said.

Taguig has a population of 720,000 people. It is home to Bonifacio Global City (BGC)—Metro Manila’s premiere business hub that also hosts high-end residences, shopping malls, various embassies, a world-class hospital as well as a state-of-the-art science museum.

Meanwhile, Mayor Lani also enjoined Taguigeños to do their part in discouraging criminals like burglars from ransacking their belongings while they are away from home.

“We should make sure that our homes’ doors are properly locked before going on a trip. Informing a neighbor that you will be gone for days is also a good move. Sometimes an ounce of personal responsibility is all it takes to keep your belongings safe,” she pointed out.

Likewise, Mayor Lani advised her constituents to immediately report suspicious persons or activities to police so these may be acted upon.
