Taguig to host TESDA jobs-bridging program

The city government of Taguig will be hosting a unique job fair Tuesday, March 19, under the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) program dubbed as “Hanapbuhay para sa mga TESDA Specialista”—a massive jobs-bridging program for its so-called “Specialistas.”

The event will be graced by TESDA Director General Joel Villanueva, Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) Secretary Rolinda Baldoz and DOLE-NCR Regional Director Alan Macaracay.

Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano will be on hand to deliver welcoming remarks for the participants.

According to TESDA, Hanapbuhay para sa mga TESDA Specialista aims to link technical vocational training and actual jobs by providing TESDA graduates or “Specialistas” access to companies that are in need of the type of skills they specialize in.

“Ultimately, the success of the TESDA training programs would be gauged in connecting skills training to jobs,” Villanueva said.

Mayor Cayetano said the job fair is being organized by City’s Public Employment Service Office (PESO) in partnership with DoLE.

Some 45 local companies and five overseas recruitment agencies based mostly in Metro Manila are set to participate in the job fair Tuesday at the Taguig City Hall auditorium from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“TESDA’s program will bring quality employment closer to our constituency, particularly to the people trained under TESDA, by bringing over the companies that are willing to hire them. It will just be a matter of selling themselves to their potential employers” Mayor Lani said.

The Hanapbuhay para sa Tesda Specialista was initially launched at the Quezon City Hall’s covered walk last March 12, followed by a similar event at SM Tunasan, Muntinlupa City last Monday, March 18.

At least 23,500 “Specialistas” are expected to troop to the jobs-bridging events slated in different dates and sites.

The other dates for the TESDA jobs fair are: March 20 at Victoria Mall, Caloocan City; March 21 at SM San Lazaro, Manila; March 22 at Cuneta Astrodome, Pasay City, and March 25 at the Pasig City Sports Center.

The lady mayor has instructed Taguig-PESO to continue to provide employment opportunities to its constituents, particularly through its own job fairs.

“Providing jobs and livelihood to our constituents is a year-round endeavor. In the end, we do not only want to bring employment opportunities closer to Taguigeños; we also want to provide them with quality jobs,” Mayor Cayetano pointed out.

Ang job fair ay dadaluhan nina TESDA Director General Joel Villanueva, Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) Secretary Rolinda Baldoz at DOLE-NCR Regional Director Alan Macaracay.
