Taguig to relive ‘bayanihan’ for Brigada Eskwela

The city government of Taguig will relive the spirit of “bayanihan” in the city for the implementation of Brigada Eskwela activities that will benefit thousands of students in the opening of classes this  June.

 Carrying this year’s theme “Tayo Para sa Kalinisan at Kahandaan ng Ating mga Paaralan,” the city of Taguig has enjoined its local constituents, mostly volunteering parents of public school students, barangay officials and leaders, local civic organizations and concerned residents to help and assist in the activities.

 “We encourage every city stakeholder to volunteer in this modern-day version of’bayanihan.’ I enjoin everyone to lend a hand so our students would have classrooms that would encourage learning. The more help we get, the better,” according to Mayor Lani Cayetano.

 Mayor Lani will be leading the Brigada Eskwela kickoff ceremony this May 18 at the Senator Renato Companero Cayetano Memorial Science and Technology High School.

The Brigada Eskwela or the National Schools Maintenance Week is an annual program of the Department of Education (DepEd), mandated under DepEd Order No. 24 issued in 2008, which encourages volunteerism in the repair and cleanup of class rooms in public schools.

 This school maintenance effort engages all education stakeholders to contribute their time, effort and resources in ensuring that public school facilities are available and ready in time for the coming school opening.

 True to its commitment to provide quality education for all, the local government of Taguig has been participating annually to the week-long activity.

 This year, Mayor Lani has directed the involved City Departments to prepare in advance the needed equipment for the activity.  The city government is annually providing cleaning materials like rugs, dust pan, floor wax, waste bins, detergents, and brooms.

 The city government will also provide paints and painting materials for school buildings and classrooms that need a fresh coat of paint.

 Additional manpower from the city government will also be provided to help in the classroom painting, garden planting, chair and desk repair, and classroom electrical repairs.

“Once again, let us unite to keep this tradition of ‘bayanihan’ alive in the city, which made Taguig developed into what is now a modern, world-class city,” said Mayor Lani. ###
