Taguig transfers 2,000 students from public to private schools

TLC program funded  from Fort  Bonifacio earnings

Almost 2,000 students from public high schools in Taguig will be transferred to private schools entirely paid for by the city’s local government under the Taguig Learners Certificate (TLC) Program.

Mayor Lani Cayetano made the announcement as she reiterated that the program is among social services successfully funded by taxes earned by the city government from Fort Bonifacio.

“The people of Taguig continue to enjoy the fruits of all the investments we made in Fort Bonifacio, particularly in Bonifacio Global City. All of our labors in making The Fort very attractive to the business community are not in vain,” she said.

In particular, a total of 1,944 students will be awarded scholarships under the TLC program, which is aimed at decongesting the city’s public high schools for a better learning environment by helping public school students transfer to a private school of their choice. It also helps the partner private schools by providing students to fill the excess capacity.

It is considered an enhanced version of the Department of Education’s (DepEd) Government Assistance to Students and Teachers in Private Education (GASPE), a national government program with the same objectives.

Under the TLC program, all the 1,944 students will be given P5,000 this week.

“A bulk of what we earn from Fort Bonifacio goes to our education programs such as the TLC. We are making sure that we provide only the best public education to our constituents,” Mayor Lani said.

In fact, more than 27,000 scholarships have been given away under the P300-million LANI Scholarship program to date, which provides eight types of scholarships to Taguig students.

Aside from this, education is free in Taguig along with free ready-to-wear school uniforms, shoes, school bags and school supplies.

“We are very proud of Fort Bonifacio which is the source of all the funds allocated for our education programs,” Mayor Lani said. ###
