Taguig readies ‘Oplan Undas 2015’ for All Souls Day rush
The local government of Taguig announced it is ready to manage the high volume of people expected to troop to nine cemeteries located all over the city in observance of All Souls Day on November 2.
Mayor Lani Cayetano said under the city’s Oplan Undas 2015, certain departments within the local government have been given their separate tasks and mandates to provide convenience to those who will visit departed loved ones in cemeteries and prevent any untoward incident or accident from taking place.
“Every year, we always prepare for this holiday as we have 10 of the largest cemeteries in Metro Manila. We will do our best to make sure nothing untoward happens during this day,” Mayor Lani said.
She warned visitors that the liquor ban in cemeteries will be strictly enforced and that the possession of deadly weapons will be penalized.
Primarily, Oplan Undas will ensure that three primary functions are undertaken on November 1- round-the-clock security, medical service and traffic assistance.
According to Taguig City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) Head Evelyn Arago, there will be helpdesks and first-aid tents ready to provide information and medical assistance should anyone require any in all 10 cemeteries:
- Bagumbayan Cemetery
- Hagonoy Cemetery
- Tuktukan Cemetery
- Ligid Catholic Cemetery
- Aglipay Cemetery
- Libingan ng mga Bayani
- Garden of Memories
- Maharlika Cemetery
- Serenity Park Cemetery
- Heritage Park
Aside from members of the Taguig City Police, additional personnel from the Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) will be deployed to ensure peace and order within the vicinities of the cemeteries and to provide any assistance to visitors.
The City Engineering Office and Traffic Management Office will also be launching “clearing and road maintenance operations” on entrances and exits in order to avoid traffic jams that regularly mar almost every celebration of All Souls Day.
The Taguig City Police and the TMO will also put up a Motorist Assistance Center along C-5 Road where the Heritage Memorial Park and Libingan ng mga Bayani are located.
As an early traffic advisory, motorists going to cemeteries are encouraged to use the alternate route in Ususan and General Luna St. towards Sta. Ana and Manuel L. Quezon St. when going to Bagumbayan starting from 6 am on November 1 to 5 pm on November 2.
The city government also said that the whole stretch of Bagong Calzada – Tuktukan Road will be closed to traffic. ###
