TCU posts high passing rate in 2011 Criminology Licensure Exams
If the result of this year’s Criminology Licensure Examination is any indication, then the educational reforms implemented by Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano when she took over as local chief executive are now paying off.
This, as Mayor Cayetano proudly reported that 28 out of the 32 examinees from the Taguig City University (TCU) successfully hurdled the licensure examinations last October-reflecting a remarkable passing rate of 87.50 percent.
Only a total of 7,789 out of the 17,804 individuals who took the exams got through, resulting in a nationwide passing rate of 43.75 percent.
Mayor Lani congratulated the new criminologists to come out from the city-run TCU, as well as its faculty members.
“The high passing rate among the university’s graduates establishes a good reputation for TCU especially in the eyes of aspiring law enforcers and even lawyers who want to study criminology as a preparatory course,” she said.
But what delighted the 29-year-old lady mayor more was seeing the fruits of the reforms that she had implemented on city’s education sector. It can be recalled that for 2011, the Taguig City government allotted a budget of P1.121 billion for projects in education.
TCU is a beneficiary of this budget increase for education. Through Mayor Lani’s effort, TCU conducted review classes for the examinees. TCU likewise ensured their transportation and lodging during the examination day. Mayor Lani also offered financial incentives for those who would top the exams.
The licensure examinations were administered by the Board of Criminology in the cities of Manila, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Legazpi, Lucena, Pagadian, Tacloban, Tuguegarao and Zamboanga.
“The city government realizes that education is a worthy investment. Coupled with the wise use of these funds, Mayor Lani’s perseverance in delivering changes to this sector will surely produce more positive results such that of the Criminology Licensure Examinations,” said lawyer Darwin Icay, the mayor’s spokesperson.
A new school building worth P50 million is being constructed in TCU as part of Mayor Lani’s infrastructure upgrade plan.
