Tinga group in panic because of Mayor Lani’s push for transparency and good governance in Taguig

Team Cayetano spokesman and former councilor Atty. Darwin Bernabe Icay said that the ongoing harassment from the camp of ex-mayor Freddie Tinga, including Vice Mayor George Elias and members of the city council is meant to delay the efforts of Taguig City Mayor Maria Laarni “Lani” Cayetano to uncover anomalies of the previous administration as part of her transparency and good governance reform agenda.

According to Icay, the harassment from the Tinga camp came after the order of mayor lani to audit city hall operations, including the expenditures of city hall.

“Right after Mayor Maria Laarni “Lani” Cayetano took over City Hall, her reform agenda included an audit of city hall operations.  The council was also part of the IT, garbage, and security contracts, each amounting to hundreds of millions of pesos.   It is obvious that this auditing is giving her political opponents grief and discomfort.  We expect more cases to be filed and more harassments coming from the Tinga camp.  The Tinga camp is in panic because of the controversial issues we are uncovering  involving these hundreds of millions worth of contracts on information technology, security services, garbage collection and hauling.”, said Icay.

Icay also explained that the drama involving transfer of the City Council session hall is another form of harassment.

“On the matter of reorganizing city hall, the mayor has the power to reorganize city hall, including personnel and offices. The ongoing political drama involving the transfer of the session hall is just a drama obviously instigated by Tinga and his supporters in the council.    The council has been allocated a spacious and fully air-conditioned room. The Tinga camp is behind this harassment. “

Lastly, Icay appealed to the members of the city council not to be afraid of the investigations.

“Instead of the Tinga led council being afraid of investigations, they should support ongoing reforms. Huwag silang matakot kung wala silang tinatago”.

Icay stressed that Mayor Lani will not sacrifice her reform agenda and transparency focused on education, peace and order, job creation, health,  just to appease the Tinga group.  Her administration is focused on good governance, transparency and accountability. ###
